Time for a new one for me. Seems like Casper and Leesa triggered a mattress renaissance, because there are a lot of options.

And go!

If you go to a big box brick and mortar store for your mattress, you're doing it wrong

We bought a Leesa Sapira three weeks ago and from the very beginning it has been the best mattress I've ever slept on.

the real answer is.. you have to try them out yourself and find what you like in your price range.

arrogant asshats are going to chime in that if you do not buy Band X, Y or Z you are doing it wrong. But that is complete and utter crap.

But you do have to put in legwork to find what is right for you.

Or you can just buy a Zinus California King memory foam mattress on Amazon for 1/15 the cost of what you'd pay at a brick and mortar and save yourself the heartache.

Ideally I'd spend no more than $1200. No wife so it'll just be me most nights. I like a soft but firm mattress that sleeps cool.

Zinus, nectar, tea olive branch... this is the point of my OP.

So many options it's impossible to wade through the BS. The .orgs had me sold on a Nectar until I read the amazon reviews.

Get a Zinus. They're probably $300 and great mattresses. If you don't like, return it for your money back

The key is DONT THROW AWAY OLD TRADITIONAL BOX SPRINGS. Beds have generally been lousy since the industry decided the way to sell more mattresses was "planned obsolescence". Like the auto industry moving from '50s durability to '80s disposability, our grandparents never heard the line about "replace your mattress every 8 years". The industry moved away from a forever-lasting true box spring + flippable two-sided quality mattress to selling us all on the supposed benefits of a single-sided mattress on an inanimate "foundation" riser or, worse, memory foam padding that disintegrates. Industry veterans will admit this in direct conversations. Side sleepers suffer the most. It got to the point where I'd tear the sheets off of a comfortable bed during business trips to read labels and figure it out. It's also the reason you may find that you sleep so well in an old country inn with a feather bed topper during vacation.

The hotel industry in many places still demands the durable old systems. You can find and order them if you really dig, but they don't make it easy. I found a box spring maker in Jersey, and the double-sided mattress for Hilton from the commercial side of Serta. Also found out that some high-end legacy hotels in NYC order horsehair mattresses in the traditional blue/white striped cotton ticking. Under normal wear and tear at home, they would need replacing every 40 years or so.

We got a Layla.
The matress and box spring come in a box.
Put a few bolts in the box spring and put the cover on it.
Unroll the matress and take off the vacuum sealed bag.

It was easy, and I like the feel of the mattress. Soft on top but firm underneath.

My foam mattress alone is more comfortable than any old school spring mattress/box spring combination I've ever slept on. The box spring is pointless.

We were gifted a Leesa, but are also on our second foam-mattress-bed-in-a-box from Wal-Mart (~$400 for a King, including shipping). Our first one was in our master and honestly there is little to no difference vs. a Leesa, other than the Wal-Mart ones do go "old" faster. For the money, I'll cycle through the cheaper ones.

I highly recommend buying the suburban cowboy. It's got just the right amount of give without being too soft. Wife and I love it.

We got a Zinus memory foam in a box for around $200, we tried it out and it's been great. I was very skeptical, but there's a money back guarantee, and for $200 I thought it was worth the risk. We were having all sorts of neck and back pain with our old mattress and this one has been great.

How do you people sleep on the Zinus mattresses? They're hard as a rock. You may as well just sleep on the floor..

Same for me. 100% latex. Highly recommend going that route. I got mine from the Original Mattress Factory in Fort Worth. Look for a local manufacturer wherever you are. All major cities have at least one.

This is the mattress we were looking at.

My last concern with foam is the heat retention. Also we want something more firm.

How long have you had it?

And of course the price is a concern as well.
Help appreciated.

Did you buy the thickest version of the Zinus? More comfortable than any spring mattress out there, that's for sure. I like it more than the Tempur-Pedics.

Tempur-Pedics are all marketing.

Which Zinus did you buy? A firm one, I'm guessing?

We recently bought a king size Ghostbed Luxe, and I have to say that it is exactly what you describe here. I have never felt any mattress this cool...it's awesome!

I have no fng idea. It's a queen and I sleep just fine. I quit using a pillow years ago. Can't really say why, but it's liberating. Does this answer your stupid question?
