The mystery item is a Cooper's bung hole auger for boring tapered holes in barrels and casks.
The tapered hole fits tapered plugs and also the tapered end of spigots or taps for dispensing
the contents.

Never heard of it as a part on a car, though.

mr. cabana was just explaining to me how many bung holes his car has.

there were several bung hole jokes to follow, and i was wondering if he was just pulling my leg.

Not unless it's slang for something. What I don't know, though.

Ask if he's seen your piekost.

"What's a piekost?"

"About $6"...and hilarity will ensue.

did i tell you about my "radial arm saw" remark during terminator3?

to this day, we still refer to that as the joke of all jokes.

Never heard the term in regards to an automobile unless it pertains to the plugged drain holes in the floor pan and trunk that can be knocked out in case of flooding. More properly it refers to the holes in the side or top of wooden kegs that are sealed with a wooden plug...the bung...into which a spigot can be placed.

All drain holes in cars are called "bungholes" by mechanics. The ones you mention are appropo as are water plugs in the engine.

Please, Mr. Goodwrench, would you check out my car's bunghole, I can just hear it now.

he said his car has 5, i believe. if ithelps, he was underneath the car, kinda just behind and to the middle of the front passenger side wheel.

isn't it even more fun that he had some sort of a sensor plugged into the bung hole?

i think it has something to do with oxygen sensors, but i wasn't paying close enough attention. i was cracking up at his bunghole jokes and Beavis impression.

so we're watching terminator 3...
and the sexy terminatrix lady is on top of a car where the folks she's after are riding.

she can turn her arm into various weapons.

she is atop the car, and decides she needs to gain access to the inside of the car so she can destroy the people inside-- so her arm sprouts a big ol' circle saw blade and she begins to saw through the top of the car.

i nudge mr. cabana and go "so, is that a radial arm saw?"

yes, i am legendary.

The threaded boss that is welded to exhaust pipes for oxygen sensors are called bungs. I had to design an exhaust system one time and we had fun with that as well.

The "bunghole" is right next to the turn signal fluid filler cap (usually the right hand one).

Did he need TP for his bunghole?
