My husband's golfing buddy has a kid in the same grade/school as my daughter. They were hanging out at our house when my daughter starts crying loudly from the kitchen. Long story short after getting both kids side of the story, both kids admitted that the other kid convinced my kid into drinking tabasco by telling her it was baby food and to close her eyes.

I look at the kids dad and asked if he was going to say anything and he looked at my daughter and asked if she was being overdramatic. I wanted to flip the hell out but I remained calm and asked my husband to chime in. He is very calm and logical at all times and will always side with what's right even if it's not in agreement with me.

He says to our daughter that she shouldn't drink things because someone tells her to and told his buddy that he should correct his daughter's behavior because what she did was wrong.

He totally disagreed and thought it was "what kids do." He refused to acknowledge that it was a ****ty thing to do and stormed out and cancelled some plans that we had all made.

As far as I'm concerned his child is no longer welcome at my home.

What would you do in this situation Texags? Sorry if it's rambly but I'm still pissed....

That guy's a dick! I would have done exactly as you. And be glad that I have a level-headed partner that's willing to stand up for what's right, regardless of who it's against.

Other dad should have told his daughter that it was a ****ty thing to do but he's also right in that this is the crap kids do.

As for storming out and cancelling plans, either he's the biggest poon ever or you left out a bunch of details in the story.....I'm leaning towards the latter.

Sometimes it can be very annoying when I want him to agree with me on something I'm adamant about but the good thing is that I have unbelievable trust in every word that comes out of his mouth....and yeah....f that guy. His daughter has caught people off guard before because she talks to people very disrespectfully....but it was never my place to say anything until it involved my daughter.

It isn't like the kid said here eat this brownie and fed your daughter dog poop.

Well, it's possible that drinking Tabasco could cause choking and/or aspiration. Not really likely though (not a doctor).

I would be pissed if someone tricked my kid into this, but it's probably a 'kids will be kids' thing, albeit we used to play a game where we would see how much pepper spray we could put into a beer and still chug it.

The guy is super sensitive....in fact I had hooked him up with my neighbor and she cancelled on him one night because her washing machine was not hooked up right ( minor renovations) and she had water all over her floor. He didn't talk to her for two days because of that. Yes both kids are girls and yes I agree that kids do ****ty things to each other....but in my opinion it is a parents job to correct our kids ****ty behavior.

You are over dramatic. Maybe build a safe space for your kid to be sheltered in for the rest of their life. If your child is gullible enough to close their eyes and drink some unknowm concoction then be glad it wasn't Drano.

Your kid learned a couple of valuable lessons tonight. Use them as teachable moments, not moments to stoop to the lesser mans level.

Unless y'all are Yankees, no harm can come to from drinking Tabasco, this is a non issue. If the kid tried to get her to drink drano, bleach, etc, then you would have a legitimate complaint.

I did tell my daughter that she was naive and gullible to fall for that. If my kid tricked another kid then she would have been in so much trouble it would be unfathomable. I also told her if this girl is ****ty to her in the future that she can't control others actions....only her own and to suck it up and move on from people like that.

Tobasco isn't even that hot. Maybe your daughter shouldn't be so gullible...if she's told to close her eyes and eat something that should be a sign that maybe a prank is gonna happen. Instead of being an over reactive parent teach your daughter not to be so gullible and whine.

It would depend on the friend. If this was my best friends kid, I'd admit my feelings and try to see their side of it. Even if we disagreed, I'd give it a few weeks to cool off (no pun intended) and have another chat.

If this is just an acquaintance, screw them and don't hang out with them if they give off a vibe you don't like.

Missing a big piece of information....how old are these kids?

Honestly this should have been a non issue...had the dad spoke up and said hey tricking people ain't cool and you should apologize then we all would have moved on. The fact that he called my kid overdramatic and acted as if his child was perfectly innocent pissed me off....its what his kid will do in the future that concerns me. Once again this kid has shown a lot of signs of being ****ty. Some of my other friends won't bring their kid over if she was at my house.

I can't believe OP even keeps assault condiments in the house with kids.

The other girl sounds like the kind that lives in a soft discipline environment that will grow up to be a drama queen, attention hoor, and ultimately a bad influence. I would steer your kid in a different direction. There's a reason why people join country clubs and have their children socialize with one another and it isn't because the riff and the raff get to be members.

This sounds like a pretty good prank and both girls will have a good story for later in life.

This is the sort of thing that prevents your kid from needing a safe space where he/she can watch Dan TDM 18 hours a day and actually function around other human beings.
