There are a few in my distant family.
A younger cousin. She's probably 5 or 6 years younger than me. Went complete off the rails when my uncle died when she was in 5th grade. Her and her brother who is close to my age, and their mom, all went off the rails and into drugs. The other sister kept it together and became a nurse.
My male cousin sobered up and worked as a plant operator for 25 years before going into business for himself. He's on his fourth marriage and doing well.
The younger cousin though - sheez, what a mess.
Multiple kids by multiple guys. One or two of the kids were raised by my aunt, which is just as well.
This younger cousin had had all her teeth replaced due to meth rotting them out.
She has a lot of tattoos. That's fine, whatever. But she makes sure to only wear clothing that shows off all of her tattoos. No matter the venue or occasion. She doesn't understand that nobody else is impressed.
Below her collarbone is a large tat that says "INTANGIBLE". She makes sure that can be seen by wearing scoop neck or low cut tops. Weddings. Funerals. Court dates. Whatever. That has GOT to be on display.
She had an impressive rap sheet for multiple misdemeanor crimes. Has been in jail a number of times.
Worked and lived on the carnival circuit with one of her kids in tow for a while. Did I mention meth? Yeah. Carnies have a reputation for a reason.
She sobered up finally and I think is living with my aunt in Sargent. Or Sweeny. Somewhere down there. She has gained so much weight that I barely recognized her at a memorial service in December. Turns out that being on drugs does keep the weight off sometimes!
She keeps friend requesting me on FB. I keep ignoring. I believe in second chances, but she has had so many chances and turns out to be a parasite every chance she gets. I don't need that in my life. Her kids are grown now so it's just her and I guess my aunt. She will eventually drain my aunt and move on.
