Why are men expected to "put the toilet seat down"?

Maybe it made sense in the days of chivalry when women were treated like women and men like men.
Now women want to be treated like men.

So why is it expected that men treat women like women (of old) and leave the seat down? They can damn well put it down themselves if they find it up.

When a man finds it down, he puts it up himself, doesn't not beach and moan about it, then why do women complain when they are "empowered"?

I know, First World Problems, but it comes up a lot.

civilized people always close the toilet before flushing so you don't get microscopic fecal matter on your toothbrush.

Since the seat is between the lid and the toilet, it gets put down as well.

This is not a "man versus woman" issue.
People of integrity expect to be believed, when they're not, they let time prove them right.

But it is, here in the Western world. Beats me why, because this is a silly thing to fight about.

Should men put the toilet seat down when they're finished?

It seems trivial, but the toilet seat debate strikes at the very heart of gender equality. Jonathan Wells rolls up his sleeves and flushes out the answers to the most common domestic argument in Britain

Quote:

When Thomas Crapper popularised the modern flush toilet in homes around Britain, he could not have known the magnitude of the domestic problem he was creating. For years, toilet etiquette has been a topic of consternation, with the seat in particular opening a rift of disagreement between the genders.

"It's easy to dismiss the toilet seat issue as inconsequential - but sometimes a petty argument is more than just a petty argument"
Jonathan Wells

It is popularly preached that men should put the seat down after relieving themselves, but why in this age of so-called equality is this still the case? "Chivalry!" you may shout; "kindness!" you may yell. Well, OK - but is that good enough? Because, shockingly, men like touching the seat just as little as their female cubicle-mates.
To solve the toilet seat dilemma, we must delve into the wider problems that surround it. These problems can be divided, rather neatly, into three separate areas of argument: equality, psychology and bacteriology. So let's pull up our trousers, flush out the problem and wash our hands of this khazi conflict once and for all.

Also, as a parent of babies and toddlers, leaving the lid down is for their protection. It is very easy for a curious, top-heavy toddler to fall in head-first.

The only place/time this should come up is between a married couple/couple living in sin.

If you are married and you are the man, and you are whining about "how you to have do more work by putting the seat down", then your wife chose poorly when she chose you.

Grow the **** up and be a man.

Don't act like you out the seat up, in the first place. You are probably one of those jackasses that think, "I can aim my piss right through that seat", and then piss all over it and the floor.

Every once in a while I leave the seat up on purpose. Then she wants to punch me in the face in my sleep when she forgets to check in the middle of the night and just about falls into the toilet.

Just a reminder that it's a 2 person job. I do the seat lowering, but she is still responsible for quality control.

I actually read it as his sexist view on women doing all of the "house work."

Questions for the OP:

Are you married?

Do you have a girlfriend?

Have you ever been married?

Have you ever had a girlfriend?

Have you ever had sex?

Have you ever had sex without paying for it (paying up front, because we all pay for it)?

Have you ever kissed a live, adult female human (platonic kissing of relatives not included)?

Do you hate women?

Do you have trouble communicating and relating with women?

We've been married for almost 38 years and I have rarely left the seat up. However, due to the fact that I am a slave to the 9 year old in me, I put the lid down when I put the seat down.

It's not for sanitary reasons.......it's to allow her to share in the annoyance. Since I have to raise the seat every time that I take a leak, she can raise the lid every time she does.

Don't speak for me. I do not want to, nor have I ever said I want to be treated like a man. I am a female and enjoy being treated as such. I can do all sorts of things myself, but I enjoy the company of chivalrous men. I don't expect chivalry, but a chivalrous man will get my attention a lot sooner than one with your crappy attitude.

Furthermore, you contradict yourself quite nicely. Nice job not "beaching and moaning about it. If this happens in your house, then talk to your empowered, man-like wife about it. If this doesn't happen in your house, then this isn't your problem so shut your yap and move along.

I put the seat down every time after going #1.. nor ever never thought twice about having to raise the seat each time. It doesn't matter. Men be men. We don't worry about bs like this.

Seat + lid are always down since we have a toddler, plus a cat that wants to drink out of the toilet but falls in sometimes.

Don't be a lolpoor, get a soft close lid that closes quietly on its own.

If I just have to piss, I just go outside. Don have to put up a seat or aim or waste any water. Not having neighbors is nice.

I'll start leaving the seat down when my wife starts replacing the toilet paper when she uses the last one.

Ditto.

I can hear it in marriage counseling or the divorce, "and my goodness, he/she could never do something as simple as putting the toilet seat down!"

Ok, you are exempt
Maybe it's those ugly fat feminazis I am referring to.
In any case I am not hankering for your attention. Don't flatter yourself. I don't even know who you are.

In the East, no one cares about it. This is not even an issue. I just hear about it in the US where it is made a big deal about. Who really cares? If you don't like the way the seat is, just change it.

No, don't flatter YOURself. I never so much as hinted that anyone was trying to "garner your attention." That notion is something you conjured up in your fool head. I can assure you that you think way more of yourself than anyone around here does.

Here we go again with Virtue Signaling. You demand that I don't speak for you in your post but then I never did in the first place, because I never knew that you even existed. You seem to think very highly of yourself, maybe because of the internet creeps that flirt with you. They are not real. At the end of the day, you just are all alone in your miserable existence. Oh yes, and a few of your TexAgs buddies who think you are a female.
