I thought a thread about things that we do that we think are slightly weird, things we wonder if other people do, or cool things we have figured out and wonder if other people generally know about them.
Ill start.
I like to ferment my iced tea. I don't know if anyone else does it. Is it gross or delicious? Does anyone other than me do it or am I a freak?
My method: I brew a fresh batch of tea. Roughly 60/40 Earl Grey to Decaffeinated Black Tea. I dilute it down slightly to the point that its still too strong to drink as iced tea. While warm I add a good bit of agave nectar. I allow this to sit at room temperature, in front of a window usually and over the course of about two days it will start to ferment due to high sugar concentration.
Just to clarify, I AM NOT DRINKING MOLDY TEA. At this point, due to the fermentation and high sugar concentration, there is no bad funky stuff happening. Its the same process as making wine/beer at this point.
I take this, put it in the fridge and add it to fresh batches of tea through out the week. In about 1 hour the whole new pot I added the fermented tea to will become fermented in flavor.
Everyone that has tried it likes it but I have never heard of anyone else trying it.
FYI it is nothing like Kombucha. Tried that after someone told me thats what that was. Nothing the same. Don't like that stuff.
