Back yard BBQ smoker recommendations?

To all my backyard smoking experts. It's time for a new smoker. I'm tired of replacing thin-walled, rusted out smokers every few years. This means no Char-Broil, Brinkman, Camp Chef or any other POS.

Can any of y'all point me in the direction of high end offset smokers?

Not offset but they are amazing.

If just a smoker, check out karubecue.

Another vote for the Weber Smokey Mountain

I have the 22" and it's a brisket machine. I used to have a decent all welded offset and I will never go back. Once you get a feel for it it's almost set and forget.

Lyfe Tyme out of Uvalde. I have had mine for 30 years. Would highly recommend. Nothing fancy.

I can't omagine anyone who isn't "in love" with pit smokers not enjoying a big green egg or Kamado Joe.

Look at Lone Star Grillz in Willis TX.

To clarify, the next smoker needs to have enough space for 3 or 4 15 lb briskets, and 8 racks of ribs. With room for sausage and a couple of chickens.

Anyone?

Academy has some good quality ones that won't break the bank. Old Country BBQ pits. I've had one for a few years and love it. Holds temp and we turn out some great stuff.

This is the model I have and love it.

You need room for all that on a "backyard" smoker? Gonna be something custom made.

If those are not at all once and individually all you need is 3x briskets or 8x racks ribs or chicken/sausage, you could get a Pitmaker Vault or Safe. I have the Safe and could do any of those at once. Vault would fit most of it at the same time but likely not all very easily. And vertical smoker will fit on most any back porch.

I don't blame that guy for slapping his name on anything he can and selling out before the hipsters and foodies move on to whatever comes next after obsessing on brisket.

Another option is to go talk to your local high school metal shop and have them build you one.

Post a picture please.

What size? What add-ons? I've got a friend in North Carolina who swears by them.

Here's what I have handy. It's a 48" "patio" with a warmer box. If I had it do over again, I wouldn't get the warmer; don't really use it.

Thanks. I've asked them for a quote for shipping. It might be cheaper just to fly to Savannah, rent a U-Haul and drive it back.

I really like the firebox construction. The door is large enough to easily stack split wood in it. Everything I see in Texas has a small door, plus a lid. If you lift the lid to add wood or coals, you just let your box get cold.

I have a large BGE and love it. I have always loved smoke foods but struggled doing it with traditional grills with smoke boxes due to air leak. The BGE is so damn easy to smoke with I've been doing smokes 1-2x a week. I did some Ribs with corn on the cob & bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers yesterday that was just amazing and so easy.

Now it is not big. I can only fit 2.5 racks of ribs on it so don't think it will work for you. But the well built well sealed kamado style is a game changer for me. Well worth it IMO.

How much did the custom paint cost you? Looks awesome!
aggiebq03+
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Paint is included in the price. They use automotive paint since the whole thing is insulated, so can do most any color. Side bonus is the outside only gets warm but not burning hot and also doesn't take much fuel to keep going once up to temp.

Think the decals were like $150 extra or so. Can't recall from memory but it wasn't much.

I have a similar unit. I didn't realize the vertical box was a warmer. It runs 100 degrees cooler than the cooking chamber. Pretty much useless.
