Was it just bc South Park did it?

People hate things that are popular. Are you new to the Internet?

U2 sucks. "changa changa changa changa". All their songs sound like that.

Already watched this twice this morning;

Because they suck

They were pretty hip and kind of edgy/political in the 80s, and especially but the time Joshua Tree came out, Bono had solidified himself as a very charismatic frontman, and the songwriting was very catchy. They hung in there in the early 90s and stayed relevant with Achtung Baby, but around that time Bono started taking hinelsf super seriously and became sort of a parody of himself. After some real mid90s distasters (Pop), they came back in the 2000s with certainly pleasant if not toothless pop rock music that their older fans really liked, but younger folks I guess found kind of anemic. That coupled with Bono now fancying himself some kind of Princess Di humanitarian figure, and people just kind of started seeing him and the band as an extension as a joke.

Of course they still are one of, if not the biggest bands in the world, so that is also going to bring with it the baggage of 'haters'.

I never understood why people didn't make fun of them.
I've never liked their music and when Bono decided his opinion is so much more important than everyone else's, that solidified it.

I was still marginally entertained by the older stuff and gave them a pass on the newer stuff because it wasn't played on any stations I listened to. Them infecting my iTunes with that garbage album without my consent is where I drew the line.

Mostly because they're Irish

I'm not sure what that number nonsense means, but yes apple gets some blame smeared on them as well. At least they crawfished enough to allow people to delete the damn thing.

I never liked U2 as their sound is too whiny for me. Never likes bands like The Cure, Smiths/Morrisey, etc.

The Joshua Tree was a truly phenomenal album.

Perhaps if they had continued to put out phenomenal albums instead of put out garbage after that, they wouldn't be disliked so much.

That and Bono's political activism probably didn't help.


I believe I may have been the only person in America that liked their Pop album...

I hated them ever since iTunes forced them onto my playlist.

Indeed. It's the go-to move for the unaccomplished attention-seeker trying desperately to fit-in and be cool. This typically precedes gloming onto something (usually a band or food) that few people know about and then pimping it to members of the peer group.

Because it wasn't nearly as cool looking as the SR-71.

However, the SR-71 has long since been retired (twice) while U2 continues serving.
