Would this guy be famous at all if it weren't for chappelle? Serious question, because I never heard of him before then. Even after chappelle, I found out he was Eddie's brother.

Did he do anything in his own right?

Charlie served in the United States Navy for six years before starting his career as a comedian. He made his feature film debut alongside brother Eddie in 1989's Harlem Nights, then went on to appear in CB4 in 1993 and Night at the Museum in 2006.
Quote:

Charlie rose to fame as a recurring performer on Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show from 2003-4, where he was involved in some of Dave Chappelle's most memorable skits.

He also worked with his brother, co-writing some of Eddie's projects, including the 2007 film Norbit, and starred in TV series such as Are We There Yet, The Boondocks, and Black Jesus. He also toured with notable acts like Cedric the Entertainer and Eddie Griffin.

Soo.. the answer is no I guess. Doesn't seem to have any leading roles in movies.. only became a household name through his brother and Chappelle.

"rose to fame" it says.

Considering that those stories are the pinnacle of the chappelle show and that they are his stories and he wrote them and that the chappelle show is considered one of the best comedy works of any kind ever, I would say you are heavily marginalizing his place in comedy and fame.

i haven't done anything, and therefore would expect there to be no threads on here about my death.

Hey it's sad he died, relatively young, and it's a terrible loss for his family and friends. But I just wonder if the casual movie/tv watcher even knows who he is. Yes, those Chappelle skits are funny.

Maybe the "casual tv/movie watcher" wouldn't know him, but I don't think a thread about his death where everybody posting on it obviously knows who he is would be an appropriate place to bring that up

Dude, really?

No, he wasnt' ever a big shot movie star like his brother. But he did have a leading role in what is probably the best comedy show of all time. And I would I confidently say that in 2003-2005, he was more popular than his brother.

But go ahead, keep downplaying his accomplishments. You look foolish.

that was pretty much my question; Would he be anywhere near as famous without chappelle show skits?

It's a simple question really. Actually has nothing to do with his death.
