Is this a real tradition thst has been around for generations, like fish Spurs or having a gay dog as a Mascot. Or is this a "new tradition" introduced by some idiots in an ivory tower trying to ruin the high school/college experience like when they made "traditions" like sober bonfires and somber elephant walks?

Doesn't seem like too big a deal. It's a decades old tradition. If you know from the time you even know what prom is that this is how it works then you'd see it as less of a "dating" environment and more as just a fun thing to do with your classmates at the end of the year.

I do wonder how they handle the different number of boys vs girls. Even accounting for the occasional gay and lesbian couple (assuming they allow that match up) it's got to be rare to have a 50/50 split of boys and girls.

Side note: Their mascot is a pretzel and their slogan is "You can eat us, but you can't beat us!"

I never went to prom. Just skipped ahead to the party.

At our school, prom was a 30 minute thing. Pictures, maybe one dance, then everybody went out.

My senior year, the school invoked the infamous 2 hr rule. You had to check in when you got there and you had to stay for 2 hrs. Of course, my class protested and ultimately boycotted. The juniors were a bunch of brown nosers so they went. The rule was dropped the next year (they were clearly targeting outlet class...with very good reason).

So we just met at someone's house and had a huge party. The juniors were banned.

It would be kinda neat if it were a random dance, but not for prom.

I bet everyone with a gf/bf just arrives with the person then leaves them alone for the remainder of the event.

Unless its really a tradition everyone embraces and thinks is neato...which I guess would be cool.

I'd be down for the lotto if I could be guaranteed to get swimmy, buttercups, or pirate.
