Would it put people off if about 30% of the gifts in the registry were around the $200-$300 price range?

In before $200-$300 is for lolpoors.
In before too young.
In before don't do it.

If you waited long enough, you should have all the $50 items you need.

Put a lot of expensive **** on there, a lot of places give you a discount on things from your registry after your wedding.

Nothing wrong with that, some people are generous. We got several $300+ items. Just make sure you put enough lolpoor items or you'll get a lot of stuff you don't want. For some reason a lot of people don't like to do gift cards.

I know the stainless steel tipped whips are tempting, but trust me, the regular old leather ones have held up just fine over 10+ years of marriage.

I see a $300 wine decanter or $250 blender on your registry, I'll drink all the alcohol I can at your free bar you'll be providing to offset my expenses.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be an inverse ratio between the couple's financial circumstances and how expensive the gifts on the registry are? I've seen too many cases where the bride's family was one step above sharecroppers and only the most expensive items would do.

Just put stuff on there you want. If you are a dude go full off on that thing. Going to be the last time in your life you can pretend to be a kid.

The wedding isn't about you if you are a guy, having babies isn't about you if you are a dude. The rest of your life will be about going to work to earn money so other people have stuff.

I'm glad we don't have to mess with that. We're just telling folks to donate to MD Anderson or a veterans group of their choice.

Put a few things on there like that. With any luck some of your inlaws will pool funds to get you a joint gift.

This.
Our Macy's registry did like 20% off all remaining items, so we had several things that were pricey that we intended to purchase and wanted the discount.

We also had a secondary registry that had excursions and honeymoon expenses that were in like $20 increments.

I hated registering because I don't like asking for gifts, especially expensive or extravagant ones. We kept it pretty basic.

I hate asking for things, especially unnecessary things. We didn't put anything exorbitant on there.

Most expensive thing was a huge Boos 4" thick cutting board. That was a couple hundred bucks. Most other things were between $20 and $50.

We were/are lolpoor and still had a few big ticket items.

Actually now that I think about it, what Macys did was give us cash back on all registry purchases, 20%, after it was closed out. So we created it, and added several expensive things we wanted, but we just bought them before giving out registry info to any one, so they disappeared off the list.

Then we handed out registry info, and whatever was left over at the end, we purchased it.

That way, we got 20% kick back for all things on the registry, and we didn't have to worry about people seeing expensive items and what they would think.

It would be silly to not get 20% back because you don't want an expensive item on your registry.. who cares, especially if you can make it go away before anyone even sees it.

When there is only expensive stuff, we usually go I need with others and get one big thing.

But we also put things like kitchen towels, bath towels, etc for cheaper stuff. Along with a bunch of cooking spoons and measuring cups, and things of that nature.

And then we had a bunch of people give us stuff not on our registry. So just know that to some, it doesn't matter if you even have a registry, they will still get you whatever they want to get you.

Registries are for those people.

We take cash, checks, and gift cards. Get a Square & they can swipe during the reception.

They'd better be $200-300 towels then!

I read a post here on TexAgs years ago, where this guy went to Target with his Fiance for something. Once there, she told him that they were REALLY there to set-up the gift registry for their wedding. She promptly gave him a list and told him to go and tag everything on it. He was so irritated, he went and tagged Dr. Pepper and Chips A Hoy. He said the look on her face at the crapload of DP and cookies they received was priceless.

But do register some stuff somewhere. Wal-Mart, Macy's, wherever. Because even if you put NO GIFTS on the invitations or something about giving to this or that charity, there are going to be people who will feel compelled to show up carrying A Thing in a Box Which Has Been Gift Wrapped so they can hand it to you. Over the years (and I'm older than most of your grandparents) people I've known who didn't register anywhere have gotten some really off the wall stuff.
