Lived in the KC area from 2012 up until last year. Been to this park (it's right across the highway from Kansas Speedway). Last time wife and I went was the week before that slide opened. Thing did NOT look safe (and I'm not overly squeamish).

Awful news. Feel horrible for this kid's family.

Here's a tip - if you feel the need to put netting to keep people on a waterslide, coaster, or any other amusement ride where netting would otherwise never be involved, you need to go back to the drawing board.

That second hill is too short
Or tower was too tall. Or second hill was completely unnecessary.

Either way, Schlitterbahn is screwed, unless they make you sign a waiver to ride it. I'm guessing that little 10 year old dude didn't sign a waiver.

Tower was way too freaking tall. They just wanted the "tallest slide" billing. Was only a matter of time until tragedy struck smh.

if I'm an attorney for a member of the state legislature whose kid was just murdered by a theme park, i'm going to start with asking for an astronomical sum. half a billion is a good place to start. This is negligence in the highest degree, all in an effort to engage in a **** size comparing contest when it comes to water parks.

You're right when you say they will pay. It remains to be seen if people go to jail over this. A good attorney could argue that.

Going to jail? Not sure about that. Agree they should be liable but let's see what the findings say before we call out negligence of criminal intent.

It was open since 2012 and thousands of riders have likely been on that ride. This is tragic but to ruin lives of others is not the right thing to do just so blame can be placed.

They require minimum height and a combined freaking minimum weight of a bunch of strangers in the raft! It's an accident waiting to happen! Do they weigh everyone on the slide? Even if people don't lie, how many actually know their nearly naked weight? Many kid know their weight? Wet Velcro straps???

go youtube the rafts flying off of this ride during testing. it's why they put the netting on top of the rides in the first place.

Schlitterbahn has netting over parts of their uphill water rides in New Braunfels as well, but they do not look anywhere near as dangerous as this KC ride.

watched a show on the making of this slide when it first opened.

it was bad news from the get go. they had a helluva time trying to make the slide work and work safely.

Based on the amount of blood i saw in pics of the slide, the latter. Or it may have gotten all tangled in the net while the rest of him ended up at the bottom.
