A very poor white trash family that lived in my hometown, single mom, had 4 children (oldest was a boy who was 3 years older than me, next was a girl 2 years older than me and was my brother's classmate, next was a girl in my class, youngest was a girl a year younger than me). There were only about 85 in our entire high school. Their mother was pretty much a drunk. She was running with a local white trash drunkard, and at that time had to drive about 35 miles to get alcohol. I believe I was a senior in high school, the 2 drunks were on there way back from the liquor store, story got out that they were arguing over the last drink of wine in the bottle they were sharing on the way home from the liquor store. He turned it up and she cut his throat. I don't remember how it was that he did get to the local hospital ER, but was pretty much bled out by the time they got him there.

The one my age and the one a year younger came to school the next day. Class that morning was a bit awkward.

I believe the woman wound up in a mental institution instead of prison. The one in my class wound up in mental institution as well.

October 1999, guys walks into my parents monograming business, past my mom, three other ladies and over to his ex girlfriend sitting at a computer, setting up a monogram. She had broken up with him a week earlier and filed for a restraining order two days before. He pulls out a 9mm and shoots her in the head, then turns the gun on himself, also shooting himself in the head. Scary thing was, not only had he walked within a foot of my mom with the gun in his hand, there were a total of six others in the place and he had 8 rounds left in the mag, but he had three more full mags in his pocket.

December 2002, Ryan Frazier, a fish at Baylor (on a full ride academic scholarship) who was in my son's Scout troop and was an Eagle Scout, murders his mom, dad, younger brother and family dog, stabbing them time and again. Kid was the kind of guy, we would have enjoyed dating our daughter. His Dad was a friends and co-worker of mine, really a great guy and the Scout Master of the troop.
Ryan borrowed his roommates car, drove to Victoria from Waco in the middle of the night, brought a knife with him. When he tried to enter the house, the family dog started barking, so he stabbed her multiple times. His mom heard something and he encounters her in the hall, stabbing her to death. He enters his younger brothers room (a Jr. In HS & friend of our daughter), still asleep and stabs him multiple times. He then Heads towards his dad in the bedroom. Dad hearing noise meets Ryan in the hallway where he stabs his dad to death. He then returns to his brothers room, to make sure he is dead.
He then torches the house, burning it to the ground. He was caught when he was seen on video buying gas for the car and filling the gas can near Victoria. Wierd thing was, we had seen them all at the mall about 8 that night, so we were about the last people to see them alive. He is serving life with no chance for parole. He plead guilty in exchange for taking the death penalty off the table. When asked why, he says he doesn't know....

Assume your 1st story happened in Victoria? If so, I went to high school with her. Her ex was super jealous and nuts. Sad situation.

My wife's aunt lives in Conroe. A few years ago she was carjacked in her church parking lot. The guy let her take anything she wanted from the car as long as she got it and got out fast. After taking her car he drove towards Houston (don't recall how far) and picked up his girlfriend and friend of his before turning around and heading to Dallas. On the way he got into an argument with the friend in the back seat and shot him several times while driving down the highway. Cops picked him up south of Dallas.

Really close family friends with Tina Kimbrew. in 1986 Serial killer faryion wardrip suffocated her because she reminded him of his ex wife. Sentenced to 35 years but he was paroled after 11 years. After being released he started a family but was then linked to 4 other murders before he killed Tina.
She was an incredible person from a great family. Strangely enough I have the book about those murders on a book shelf in my office. A great book with really good insight of the case if your interested in that kind of stuff. The book is called Scream at the Sky.

Just be glad the assailant wasn't Anton Chigurh.

IN all seriousness I assume you were a cop? Either way it sounds like that was a pretty dangerous career.

just thought of two different occasions where I knew someone that was murdered.

1. Guy who was a year ahead of me in high school. Close friend of mine had a crush on him. He went to college in Missouri. He and his brother were leaving a dive bar and was approached by some guy asking if his name was Chris. He said no. Didn't matter. His throat was slashed and he bled out on the way to the hospital.

2. Another guy, Roland, was murdered by his best friend because he thought he was making out with his aunt. During the trial, the bf stated that it wasn't him that shot the guy..that it was some guy named Lupe.

I remember that to this day. Everyone in the Victoria area took their stuff to that shop to get monogram work done. It was amazing that he didn't kill more people when he was in there.

Not a murder, but I sat at the same table as this kid at lunch in high school (Langham Creek class of '11). None of us ever knew about this, and it was so hard to believe when the news came out a year after we graduated. Like I literally might've sat with this guy and talked to him the day he did this.

http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Teen-who-was-15-when-he-raped-woman-sentenced-to-3717278.php

quote:
A Houston teenager who admitted breaking into a 38-year-old Katy woman's home and raping her was sentenced to 45 years in prison Wednesday.

Schyler Hill, who was 15 at the time, used a sharpened half-scissor blade to threaten his victim's life in her home during the April 28, 2010 sexual assault.

State District Judge Maria Jackson decided Hill's fate after seeing the results of a pre-sentence investigation and hearing from the victim, who said describing the assault in open court was the most gut-wrenching thing she had ever done.

The woman encouraged victims of other crimes to come forward despite the fear. "I think it does help the victim," she said. "I feel empowered. If I can do this, I feel like I can do anything."

Defense lawyers for Hill were incensed that prosecutors argued for a life sentence for the first-time offender who was certified to be tried as an adult.
"This was a 15-year-old with no prior criminal history, no juvenile history, no adult history, and he ended up in adult court," said Eric Davis. He said prosecutors made a plea offer of 45 years before Wednesday's sentencing. "Habitual offenders get offered less time on similar allegations," Davis said.
He said Hill got a lengthier sentence because prosecutors value victims differently.
"We ought to value victims all the same, but in this case, I got the impression this victim was valued more than in other cases," Davis said. "She wasn't a woman who was poor, she wasn't a woman who was a minority, she was well-to-do."

The 18-year-old will have to serve at least half of the sentence before being eligible for parole.

"What Schyler Hill did in this case was beyond brutal, the details are absolutely horrifying, and it's something nobody should have to live through," said Assistant Harris County District Attorney Lacy Johnson. "I think Judge Jackson made the right decision."

The victim's husband offered good luck to Hill after the sentencing.
"It's heartbreaking to see someone this young ruin their life," the husband said. "But he brought this battle, he chose this battle, not us."

The shooting I described in my first post in this thread happened at Langham Creek circa 1987(?).
miller0926
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ha ya I saw. I actually knew about that shooting before I read that post.

My dad coached and taught at this HISD highschool for 20-something years and when I was in I guess 7th grade was when Katrina hit. At his school there were alot of Katrina refugees and there was a big New Orleans v. Houston fight at the school with multiple shots fired and one of the bullets shot out one of his fellow coaches windows... and that got me curious and I remember that night I googled Langham Creek gangs and Langham Creek shooting and went and showed my dad that story of the AP getting shot (I think it was pretty big news at the time it happened so he probably knew already).

Was on the golf team in high school, and we all got to know the cop assigned to our school pretty well. He'd see us leaving early to go to practice, start chatting, etc. Some of us would occasionally play a round with him on the weekends. A few years after I graduated I learned that he had retired, built his new retirement house, and on the first night after moving in he shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.

Older friend of mine, and father of a friend of mine, was stabbed in the neck at a bar I usually would have been at when it happened. He bled out on the bar floor. Another buddy of mine chased the attacker down and held him until the police showed up. Attacker will get out in ~20 years.
