Waiting in the lobby to get these suckers out. The drugs should be amazing. See you on the flip side!

Or am I way too positive about this?

Funny you bring this up. I just had to have back molar pulled yesterday in an emergency procedure. Seems I cracked it over the weekend and it became abscessed. Now I am down to 31 teeth. The actual pulling of the tooth was pretty much no big deal, and near painless. Since then, my jaw has been achy and a bit swollen, but they gave me codeine for that.

Fortunately for me, I still have all of my wisdom teeth, and the dentist thinks that the one on that side should more or less move up into place to replace my pulled molar.

I'm pretty glad I kept mine.

Yes, they pulled my tooth while I was awake. No big deal. As long as I was shot up with enough local anesthesia, all I could feel was pressure, though the sensation of yanking it out and popping the tips of the root out on my skull was interesting. I could feel the scraping clear around to the back of my head. But no pain.

Its funny how dentists always want to pull them - even if they aren't causing any problems.

keep on schedule with your pain meds for the next few days

Not the case here. I had an infection underneath one of them that hurt like hell and was swollen. Even kept me out of work for a day. They're getting pulled for a good reason, unfortunately.

The drugs are amazing, however the excruciating pain outweighs that and the whole experience sucks.

If you don't get dry sockets you should be fine.

I hope you already have the drugs.

Lost one of my molars years ago. (Not the back one, either.)

First it cracked and I never got it fixed. Over time I lost it a piece at a time until now I'm down to the gumline. Root is still in there.

Still have all my wisdom teeth, too.

I hate the dentist.

bunch of poo-nannies up in here.

Drugs were great.

Doesn't hurt much if your doc knows what he/she is doing.

Ice cream for days afterwards.

Follow all instructions.

That's what my acupuncturist says, too.

Had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled about 12 yrs ago. All had been fully out for 8+ yrs at the time but kept getting cavities because they were difficult to properly clean. Finally decided to pull them when the choice became extraction or crown. I was awake the entire time. No gas just local anesthesia. The top 2 were easy (they had no fillings). Just some pressure from pulling them. Bottom 2 were interesting. Due to the size of the previous fillings they did not hold up particularly well to the pliers. Both teeth actually crushed as he attempted to pull them out. There is nothing quite like hearing your teeth crush.

Was sore for a few days but wasn't horrible. I actually had a bad reaction to the codeine so I ended up just using Advil and Tylenol to dull the pain.

Navy Dentist pulled all mine out before heading to Iraq. Only given local anesthetic while pulling them. Then only prescribed motrin for pain. Wasn't that bad actually.

I didn't get drugs when my wisdom teeth came out. And the first two were done while fully awake by a dentist.

Alright. I'm out. I was awake for the whole thing. Not that bad really. En route to drugs

If your post-op pain gets pretty bad, I heard smoking crack helps. Just try to avoid getting addicted.

Army dentist did mine at Ft. Hood. Those guys are taught speed, not comfort. Feeling them being crushed to extract them was the worst, but no real pain after.

1975 for right side and fully awake because they couldn't get the IV started...no real pain post procedure

1976 left side and newlywed so I brushed my teeth gently and rinsed with mouthwash...BIG MISTAKE, HUGE MISTAKE...caused a dry socket when the clot in the bottom jaw hole was dislodged and that was some kind of throbbing! Had the removal done on Friday and throbbing by Sunday afternoon. Finally decided to phone surgeon's office(Beaumont) on Wednesday and he arranged a follow up with a surgeon(Houston). They stuffed oil of clove soaked gauze in the hole and it was instant relief and so welcomed I thought I might cry!

Yeah, I am strictly following the post extraction healing regimen.

I had one removed in the summer of 1971, an era known in Medicine as The Dark Ages.

The dentist said that if he'd known what was involved before he started he'd have done it in hospital under general anesthesia. This was not all bad, though. We spent several days at my parents' house and I lived on chocolate pie. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Easy stuff. Had mine out last year. Just local, no other drugs. Took all of 2 minutes. Hurt for about a day. Not the spot the teeth sat in, but that whole side of my face. Stay on top of pain meds. Avoid food and drink. Back to normal in no time

I had a very bad experience on the 7th of this month. If you are getting them out in Houston, I can tell you who NOT to go to.

I only had two. Got paid to take them out in a clinical trial.

I think its worth noting that different things are needed for different people.

All 4 of mine were taken out and hey had to cut into my jaw and gums.cause they were impacted.

I got dry socket in all 4 back molars. It was the worst pain of my life and the pain meds did nothing.

Very minimal pain today. Nothing but soup, pudding and water. Barely any blood on the gauze either. Hoping I'm in the clear.

The worst part is the irrigation of the sockets.
