Depends on what she wants. The center diamond in mine is .7 with 1 small flaw rated at a VS 1 or 2 (don't remember). To me, that is big enough, but my engagement band has more than 1 diamond

A moissanite is, effectively, an artificial diamond. The only way a jeweler can tell the difference without their little resistor device is that a moissanite is flawless, with better color and brilliance.

And its manufacture doesn't slaughter children, while diamonds are a source of violence and crime, and aren't even actually worth anything.

You're going to need at least 3 ct.

Though I like your passion. When getting married there are lots of expenses, for sure the first year of the marriage. I assume both are fairly young too.

There's an unwritten rule of spending a certain percentage of your income and I don't recall what it is when buying the ring.

You can always upgrade the diamond at the 5 year, 10 year or on any anniversary really. She should love you regardless of the amount spent and cherish it because it came from you and represents your commitment.

When your budget can handle it... Go ham on the ring. But not now

Because Debeers has a century of marketing behind their product and have folded themselves into tradition. People think that diamonds are rare (they are not) and therefore special. Poll the ladies of the GB and i bet most would be upset to get a moissanite instead of a diamond, but i doubt they could really give concrete reasons as to why.

1 CT? Really????? Don't you know that the length of a marriage and the extent of your love is directly proportional to the size of the diamond and the total number of CT in the wedding band????? You are so screwed.

Moissanite is 1/3 to 1/2 the price as well, I should mention. Sometimes less. It can be hard to find retail because none of the jewelry stores want to anger the diamond people. Independent jewelers can help.

The best way is actually to order online, which seems weird because you'd never buy a diamond without looking at it first. But, you know the moissanite will be clear and without flaws, so really it's just a matter of picking the size and cut.

I bought my fiance's ring with a 1 ct center, but then got the halo around it. Makes 1 ct look so much bigger!

Alias has a point with the moissanite, it is cheaper. However, I would caution the OP about getting one unless you know for sure that is what she wants. A wedding board that I read has a bunch of posts from women that hate diamonds and love moissy and a bunch of posts from other women that think the moissy ladies are just faking their diamonds, etc. If that's what she wants, awesome! But if you haven't discussed it it might be risky.
Ask her friends/relatives what she likes, or check her Pinterest board if you don't want to ask her straight up.

I believe moissys also have different colors and clarities. Also I am not aware of any jewelry stores that sell them. They're not really mainstream yet. I think I read that their patent will expire soon, so they will soon be just as cheap as cubic zirconias are.

You have to go to higher end costume jewelry places if you can't find an independent jeweler and don't want to buy online. I have a friend that ended up buying the stone at JC Penny of all places.

Because there is no concrete reason to prefer a diamond, unless you don't want a stone that is TOO brilliant, I suppose. If any woman was given two identical cuts and size of stone, one diamond and one moissanite, not knowing which was which, she would pick the moissanite based on its sparkle. At worst, she wouldn't be able to tell a difference.

And i know someone that won't wear moissanite because it makes her other diamonds look bad.

Sadly if you ever decide to sell your real diamond you will realize it is worthless. A 10k rock might get you 1.5k including the setting. After seeing this first hand, diamonds aren't in my top 5 stones list

My Ex still has the ring I bought her. At one point she let me know the appraisal she received when trying to sell it was less than what I paid. I would feel a lot better if I could have responded that the diamond wasn't even real.
