do you really have to mount it up on your windshield or is it just fine and dandy to have it on the dash?

Don't know if you're in Dallas, but they don't do anything about it if you run the lane.

When my windshield broke the dumbasses couldn't get it to stick on the new one, so I always just held it up. I'll say this, though...There have been times where I'm driving alone and the tag has slipped to the bottom of the passenger side floor and I can't reach it, so I just drove through. It has always registered and I've never received a ticket (you can even look online if you're worried).

i do not have mine mounted on my window. we have switched it between cars with no problem. i'm in houston. you? the rates are going up soo, might have already. it is going to cost me $4 a day to get to and from work now. blech. and i still say that if i'm paying that much, i shouldn't have to obey a speed limit.

It will work fine on the dash.

I switched mine between vehicles when I got a new car and have had no complaints.

hmm... ag2001 makes it sound like he is going through the ez tag lane w/o an eztag. i don't suggest that here in houston. a co-worker of mine got busted for that and fined $500. they had a pic of his license plate.

houston EZ Tag is supposedly good on Dallas toll roads, as well. and in Snook, too.

Are you talking about a Toll Tag when you say EZ Tag? Cuz if you are we have 2 toll tags and we live in Dallas and switch them out in between our four cars - and sometimes even a friends/relatives car who doesn't have one.

But they do/will bust you. We just got a fine in the mail for around $150 dollars. We had to get new license plates for one of our cars and shortly after that my son used my car while his was in the shop following an accident. I continued to drive my rental WITH the toll tag - and he drove my car without the toll tag - because they generally read your license plate number and then just bill your account. Problem was - our new license plate number didn't match anything they had on file so we received a hefty fine - but got it all worked out (very easily) in the end.

In Houston you get I belive 2, maybe 3 free runs through the EZ tag before they mail the registered owner of the car a fine.

It pisses me off to no end that the two toll authorites cannot coordinate and offer the same tag for both Houston and DFW. I don't go to Houston often enough to justify an EZ Tag, and the same for a Toll Tag. However, I travel to both towns often enough that I would get one if it worked in both towns.

My friend's fiancee just zooms on through without an EZ tag. So far he hasn't got a ticket but I don't think it's fair.

The Dallas Tollway doesn't monitor cars. When they built the tollway, they said they would charge a toll until the road was paid for, and then stop charging afterward. They never stopped. I pay on George Bush since it's new, but out of principle, I run the Tollway. Been doing it for a while, done it probably 30-50 times, and nothing.

The Toll tags are going to be good for the Dallas airports (parking) soon if, not already .

Ag2001: so driving through the EZPass lane in Dallas w/o a tag won't get you in trouble? I thought they snapped a picture or something.

it's not $500 if you don't have an ez tag. not per offense anyway. unless he repeatedly did it and the fines just accumulated.

As of Oct. 1 you can use the Dallas tolltags in DFW airport.

They do snap a picture of your license plate -- and mail it to you along with the fine! That's exactly what we got - but all we use is George Bush -- rarely the North Dallas Tollway, so I can't speak to that.

If you ever take your car to a mechanic be sure to take your EZ Tag out of the car. My dad has had them stolen from his truck on two occasions.

I think they do monitor it in Houston. A buddy of mine got an EZ Tag, but he inverted 2 letters on the license plate. He got a ticket in the mail for running the EZ Tag even though he had his EZ Tag in the car. So, in his case they monitored the EZ Tag to the license plate.
