I didn't say that they meant different things. The poster asked why people weren't up in arms about the Georgia flag. I was just explaining why. Most people don't realize that when they took what most people call "the Rebel flag" (i.e. the battle flag) off of the state flag in 2003, that they simply replaced it with a nearly exact replica of the 1st National Flag of the Confederacy. A much less recognizable symbol, but a symbol that meant the same thing nonetheless. It shut everybody up, because the people that were the most vocal about the issue didn't even know what they were looking at when they saw the 2003 replacement.

While true, the flag in use now has a historical context as the original Georgia flag was based on the national flag of the Confederacy. All the variations except for the one with the Battle Flag X had the bars of the national flag.

Most would fight for their home State and abandon their post. Things like the Republic of Texas Marine Corps and Republic of Texas Navy would be reactivated and filled with people that are from Texas but served in the US Marines and US Navy. The Texas National guard already exist so the people who served in the US Army could join the Texas National Guard.

The southern region of the US does place a disproportionately high percentage of its young men and women into the armed forces, but that doesn't mean that a majority of the military is made up of southerners. Last I knew it was around 40% southerners. And that included a pretty generous definition of "South" which included states like Maryland, West Virginia, and Delaware in addition to the states most people usually think of as "Southern".

First off my post is in a mythical setting. Last number I saw was about 54% including the States you listed. Been a while though since a I've checked the data. In 1999 was about 44%. Service numbers are down under this administration and with the cut backs ordered by this administration, reenlistment numbers are at a all time low. I can tell you being in the Marines for 19 years(Active & Reserves) there are alot of people serving from the South.
