quote:While true, the flag in use now has a historical context as the original Georgia flag was based on the national flag of the Confederacy. All the variations except for the one with the Battle Flag X had the bars of the national flag.quote:quote:Yeah, like there's a whole lot of difference. They pretty much stand for the same ideology.
Because the majority of people that ***** about someone flying "the Rebel flag" fail to realize that they're *****ing about one army's
battle flag, and not the the national flag of the Confederacy.
I didn't say that they meant different things. The poster asked why people weren't up in arms about the Georgia flag. I was just explaining why. Most people don't realize that when they took what most people call "the Rebel flag" (i.e. the battle flag) off of the state flag in 2003, that they simply replaced it with a nearly exact replica of the 1st National Flag of the Confederacy. A much less recognizable symbol, but a symbol that meant the same thing nonetheless. It shut everybody up, because the people that were the most vocal about the issue didn't even know what they were looking at when they saw the 2003 replacement.
quote:So they should just switch to this one and everyone will be happy
1st National Flag of the Confederacy:

Should Six Flags over Texas change its name to Five Flags over Texas and forget the Confederacy existed and had a flag?
The rebel flag didn't fly over Texas.

It's boring over there. All they post is, "Hey yoos!"

I guess this just goes to show that right winger extremists can find a way to blame "the left" for anything. A republican governor flanked by republican leaders call for the removal of a racist flag...
And it's really just the libruls fault. Man, what it must be like to live in your world.
quote:The southern region of the US does place a disproportionately high percentage of its young men and women into the armed forces, but that doesn't mean that a majority of the military is made up of southerners. Last I knew it was around 40% southerners. And that included a pretty generous definition of "South" which included states like Maryland, West Virginia, and Delaware in addition to the states most people usually think of as "Southern".
One thing to remember in this mythical succession is that most of the military personnel come from the South. So in this fictional setting who do you think those guys would fight for. Most would fight for their home State and abandon their post. Things like the Republic of Texas Marine Corps and Republic of Texas Navy would be reactivated and filled with people that are from Texas but served in the US Marines and US Navy. The Texas National guard already exist so the people who served in the US Army could join the Texas National Guard.

If Snowden wanted to be a whistleblower, he should have been a whistleblower here in our own country, under our own laws, and been willing to take whatever consequences came his way for it. That I could have at least respected.

But when you take our nation's security secrets, fly them to China and Russia, and turn them over to our biggest geopolitical adversaries, you're a traitor, a criminal, a coward, and a ****ing idiot.

Do you really think it is effective, the way you are trying to put words in my mouth?
I said nothing about Nicki Haley, but I suppose there is an implication that makes sense to your trollin' mind.
Calling someone who interprets something differently a "right winger extremist" or a "conservative" is a total joke. If that is how you intend to try and marginalize people, then it is a sad effort.
You are doing silly political mad libs. I get that, I love mad libs too.
