Bingo. I find it ridiculously disingenuous when one spouse converts to the other's religion, just so they can get married in the church/wherever. If it was that easy to convert, then their beliefs weren't really that strong to begin with.

Well, one converted before marriage after attending an Aggie Awakening. This person did not let their now-spouse be their sponsor. They wanted it to be for themself.

The other, goes to mass every Sunday, has been contemplating it before meeting now-spouse, and has never been that involved in their own church.

I honestly can say neither has converted or will convert for their spouse

As a kid, we went back and forth from Baptist to Presbyterian, and then I married a Methodist and am now that. There really isn't THAT much difference, not like Christian and Muslim. We all believe in the same God, just differ in how to talk to Him and make Him happy.

And I really think the whole thing should be a lot simpler than it is.

Things were going just great until we changed Popes and the first new guy said John Paul II was doing things wrong. Then he quit and the next new guy changed more stuff. Suddenly the foundation of the church for anyone born under JP2 was just gone after more than two decades...

I love and respect the hell out of Pope Francis because he's taken everything the rank and file Catholics have put together over the past few hundred years and thrown it out the window.

Rick Santorum put his foot in his mouth and the someone tweeted a picture of the Pope's degree at Santorum. Santorum said on national television that Pope Francis needs to leave the science to scientists. Someone tweeted a picture of Pope Francis' diploma. He holds a masters degree in chemistry from The University of Buenos Aires.

He is not your typical pope and is exactly what the church needs right now.
