During my years at A&M I did frequent the various on campus dining places. One of my favorites was Sibisa and while I understand that it wasn't the greatest option It was a pretty decent place to get a good big breakfast in the mornings.

I was visiting family in College Station this weekend and nostalgia set in and I convinced them to go to Sibisa with me for a big breakfast. We got there I paid and got my plate but what I experienced today was a very unwelcome surprise. The breakfast/brunch was absolutely terrible with very little options. Everything tasted disgusting, the omelet guy got mad when I asked for more ham in my omelet and there wasn't even any bacon (found out that bacon is only on the menu once a week now). It was so bad that I just resorted to cereal rather than stomach any of that crap. That was $12 wasted in my book and I will definitely not be ever dining on campus again. I feel for current students with this is the current state of dining and want to know what the hell happened?

Aggie FB related because if I was an athlete I don't think I would ever want to eat on campus.

Sbisa has almost no options on Saturday and Sunday. They shut down the whole west side of the building on those days. Wait until you hear about the meal plans that they make us get now.

Agree. When I was a freshman back in 2010 Sbisa was good but after outsourcing it sucked. Last time I ate there was junior year horrible food quality. So glad I dont live on campus anymore, I cant get ripped off by crappy meal plan.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Complaining about institutionalized food - how original.
We thought we had it SO bad back in the 60's until friends visited from other campuses and raved about the food and service in Sbisa.
I'd also say that a single weekend morning sampling would hardly give one a good idea about the quality of the food in general. JMO.

When I went to Sibisa I usually didn't have a "healthy" breakfast which consisted of sausage patties, bacon ( they always had a huge pile of it) biscuts, and various other sides to go along with it and it was glorious. I used to go in there in the morning and stay all day studying for tests and grabbing some food/drink when I needed it. Hell they used to let us use the griddle that is on the right side to cook our own food back around 2008-2010 until someone screwed it up for everyone as I remember that practice being discontinued sometime in 2010.

I walked in there today and there's nutrition facts next to all of the food, NO BACON, and turkey sausage... TURKEY SAUSAGE!!! You don't go to an all you can eat buffet style place to eat healthy for god sakes.

*Need to clarify I have nothing against eating healthy but I feel like what they have turned Sibisa into is ridiculous.

You are entitled to your opinion as am I. That is why I looked up the daily menus for a week and it's the same crap all week. I'd personally like to know when your last trip to Sibisa was and would encourage you to go the next time you get a chance and let us know if you still approve of the food. I for one will not be wasting anymore money there.

bernies ftw

I had a late night munchies run to Bernies that consisted of coffee and a frozen pizza I watched them heat up in the oven. Somehow it was the best pizza I've ever had

Sbisa was pretty great after it re-opened. Even on Saturday/Sunday there were a lot of good things you could make on the grill.

"Dining on campus isn't fun" anymore?

Back when the commons was still open, they had griddles open with a big stack of pre-made burger patties, or you could get eggs and bacon at breakfast and griddle your own, or even make your own pancakes. The food wasn't half bad, and you had a decent amount of choices. I worked in Duncan for a year. It wasn't phenomenal, but it wasn't half bad.

This thread makes it sound like Aramark is doing the food.

I remember doing that too, it was awesome. Especially for cooking your own omelet for breakfast

So you're tellin me that students can't go to to Sbisa on Saturday mornings to eat some greasy delicious breakfast with all the bacon and eggs you can eat? It's some hippie BS with outsourced food?

Do they still have chicken fried steak day? I was a freshman in 05 and we always made it out for that.

Our dining services could use a huge overhaul. I know it will never come, but it is a shame we can spent half a billion dollars on a football stadium, yet we can't/wont spent the money to keep sbisa open all day, or have ANY food on west campus at nights or on weekends.

Fun Fact: some of the places in the MSC and parts of Sbisa were closed down for a period of time earlier this year due to cockroach infestations and rodent droppings

Are Duncan and Sbisa both done by Chartwell's? I remember when they were renovating Duncan and lots of people were excited about what they were going to be doing food wise. That excitement quickly diminished.

Outsourcing means some contractor does it cheaper than the school can do it. But to save the bucks, it's no wonder the food takes a hit. In my day both Duncan and Sbisa were run and operated by the school with school employees. Back then I can say both Dining Halls were A+.

Same thing happened with the Cafeteria in the MSC. I would come to Campus for a football weekend and usually have a pre-game meal in the MSC. It was great. Later on the operation was outsourced and the choices and quality were not near as good.

Chartwell's runs the whole dining service, so yes. Apparently they were $5 million in debt after last year, which makes no sense. How can you be in debt when you're selling food for much more than it's worth and at the same time students aren't spending all of their dining dollars?

It's all relative. When I entered A&M in the fall of 1968, the food at Sbisa was barely passable.

I left A&M after spring of 1970, but returned in the fall of 1976 to complete my degree. The food was light years better. And I suspect it probably, by 1968's standards, is still light years ahead today.

It's all a matter of perspective.

I keep seeing this time period brought up. Could you elaborate on the food quality so younger ags, like myself, can understand what made the 60s Sibisa terrible?

How about a class gift associated with on campus food quality subsidies?

Seems to be a crap load of belly aching going on without a whole lot of ideas coming forth.
