Beware of a women asking for money "for gas to get home" in parking lots in the Bryan/College Station area as she is not in need of gas and simply stealing money from kind people. I was personally approached in the Jason's Deli parking lot while she was on foot and gave her a large sum of cash to use for gas home, I watched her walk to a silver Buick with an older man with white hair driving. She did not and is not using the money for what she claims and is doing this to lots of different people in many different parking lots around town, she has collected quite a sum of money and has been doing this for well over 6 months now. Save your money for someone truly in need! Keep an eye out and call the non-emergency police line if you see this, I have posted on Facebook and already heard of well over 20 people who have had their money stolen by this women. Keep an eye out and spread the word!

Many good Aggies just trying to do a good dead have tried to help this lady out....just want to be sure she isn't stealing anyone else money with heart throbbing stores about her kids in the car or things like that! If you are trying to pay it forward this is the way. This women doesn't appear homeless and is probably making more money than I am doing this. Just a kind heads up for people who are over trusting and to generous.

What differentiates a good "dead" from a bad "dead"? Zombie transformation?

If she is making more money than you, perhaps you take a moment to reevaluate your life choices thus far. No?

I did research in Africa and a Nigerian scientist actually gave me cash to deliver to an actual person here in Texas in memory of her father.

My advisor thought that was the funniest **** ever.

Money is not stolen if you willingly gave it to them unless it is a pyramid scheme or some sort. You got taken because you were dumb enough to believe them.

Learned this the same way. Gave a guy some money for "food" he walked right into the corner store and out with a 40 in a brown paper bag.

Chalk it up as a lesson learned. They're able to continue this because people want to take the lazy/easy way out and just buy a good deed by handing over cash.

If you get approached with a sob story asking for gas/food and want to help, by all means help out. But don't just fork over cash. Yes, it may take a little extra time to go with them over to the gas station, or go back in to buy them some food, but 75% if the time they'll refuse your offer. So you avoid getting scammed, and know that those you actually did buy food or gas for truly needed it.

After I graduated I was a consultant for BearingPoint and working in Philly. All my good naturedness / goodwill towards those in need evaporated within a week from all the begging and routines. Let that be a lesson to you. Also, if you are ever in downtown DC there is a younger gentleman with a sob story of having been robbed and needing a ticket for a train ride down to some base in FL where he starts basic training on Monday. Otherwise he will be AWOL and in trouble. I knew it was a scam because his paper evidence was tattered beyond belief but I liked the originality so I gave him some money. I kicked myself for not telling him it was for metro fare to get to the Pentagon where someone surely would help him. Anyway several months later I met this guy again and he had the same spiel. He did not like it when I stopped him and told him you already tried this on me.

This has been a scam in Cstat for years.

I had a lady, her friend and her toddler pull up and ask me for money for gas. Told them sure but I have a gas card so meet me at the shell. They got mad, so I said my two pence advice and left

Yeah, I my lesson my sophmore year. Guy came up to me in the Bryan Walmart parking lot, asking for some cash. Big story about how was about to get paid for some tree cutting gig but his power was cut out and needed to pay the bill, kids were cold, blah blah.

I helped him out. Then he goes dark on me, doesn't pay me back, etc.

I lost about $100 but it was a life lesson.

You could avoid this by not giving them cash... put money on a gas pump, or buy them food, gift card, etc. Amateurs.

Only time I've done this, I put ten bucks on the pump at the gas station. Guy was grateful. Went on with my day. You, OP may be a dumbass

I was at a gas station once when an older black guy about in his 40's pulled up and told me he was Devante Harris and his exact words were, "I play ball for Texas A&M." Said he needed money for his kid. He must have been scamming some dumb people if that was working for him.

my husband falls for their lines all the time! I think helping someone down and out is fine but when you dress well and have a nice car that's freshly washed, I don't believe you can't feed those healthy kids in the back seat!

Also, when you ask for MY assistance don't have on NEW brand name starched pants and new shoes so that your whole outfit is matched. When I say I don't have cash and you say you have a gadget for your I-phone that allows you to accept credit cards....I'm calling the cops! Also, if we make it to the point I think you MIGHT be legit and need some assistance and I offer you WORK to EARN the money....don't you dare to tell me to F*** Off because that gets you the cops too!

dude walked up to me in a parking lot near one of my regular workday lunch spots, carrying a 1 gal gas can (and limping) and asked for some money to get some gas. "excuse me sir, I mean no disrespect" was his opening line. His name was Jesse. Seeing how he had just a 1 gal can, I gave him 3 bucks figuring that's all the gas he could fit in it. He walked in the direction of a Valero on the nearest corner. I was leaving, so I waited a few seconds and then drove over to the gas station, around the back, just to see if he really filled the can. Once he got near the pumps, he did a 180 and started walking back (with no limp) toward the original parking lot. I was in no hurry so I wheeled around and followed him back. Pulled up next to him and said "thought you needed gas." He said "uh, yeah, my car's up by the highway" (which is about 2 miles up the road in the direction he pointed). I said "yeah, okay" and drove off.

A month or two later, he approached me again in a Home Depot parking lot in the same area. He had a little boy with him. He said "excuse me sir, I mean no disrespect, but I was wondering if you could help me and my son out with some money for a place to stay tonight." I said "no, Jesse, I already gave you money a few weeks ago." He looked taken aback (he obviously didn't recognize me as someone he had dealt with before.) He stammered for a while and then said "people have told me I look like a guy that was around here with a gas can a while back." and I said, "yeah, exactly, that was you."

He mumbled something and walked off, pulling his kid along with him. As they retreated, I said loudly enough for both of them to hear, "try and teach your kid to be a better liar than you are!"
