On campus... my favorite was Caedmon's Call. Off campus was another category.

They are excellent.

Agreed. Do y'all listen to Derek Webb?

I used to.

I also attended the Logos service on Sunday nights at 1st where Caedmon's was the house band.

The REK and Lyle Bonfire Benefit concert was excellent.

Watching Cake play Rudder while in uniform was a bit surreal, but fun.

It wasn't too bad. Lot of substance abuse, lots of people looking for a place to sleep for the night, lots of drug seekers, lots of people that screwed up by saying they "wanted to kill themselves" when they didn't actually mean it, and then a couple truly crazy or suicidal individuals.

If I could go back and see any concert on campus, it would be:

1. Garth at Reed
2. Live at Rudder
3. Alabama at G. Rollie (uncle was at this one)

Was always nice walking to the old MSC to grab lunch and seeing random bands playing in the courtyard.

I was there, and it was awesome, but what I remember most:

The fratband Sly Letter, with its TWO drummers (one played beats, the other played fills) played FOREVER to open. Really, really terrible. Toadies were running late, I believe, which was the cause, but the crowd really started to turn on them.

The show ended a bit early because one of the band got into a yelling match somehow or other with one of CSPD's finest. They pulled together for a last number, covering the Pixies' Where is my Mind, which was really, really good..

Best show I saw was Garth at Reed. Not even a big fan of his stuff, but can't deny his talent as an entertainer. Just a great performance.

Would love to have a Delorean and flux capacitor and catch Elvis at GRW.

I have no idea if this still happens but back in the day I remember attending numerous concerts at GRW.
A few years ago, I talked to the guy who used to schedule the concerts at Jolly Rollie back in the 70s and into the 80s. He said that the reason they quit doing all the concerts was because the cost of getting the top performers in became too much for the student affairs budget to cover.

For the younger people here, there used to be free concerts there at various times during the year including the night before every home football game. And they were top names as well.

Steven Fromholz died in a firearms accident last Sunday afternoon.

From http://www.dallasnews.com/news/state/headlines/20140120-texas-singer-songwriter-steven-fromholz-dies-in-hunting-accident.ece:
quote:
Texas singer and songwriter Steven Fromholz has died in a hunting accident when a rifle fell and discharged.

The Schleicher County Sheriff's Office on Monday said the accident happened at the Flying B Ranch near Eldorado, about 40 miles south of San Angelo. Fromholz was 68.

Chief Deputy George Ariste says Fromholz was shot Sunday afternoon and died at a hospital in Eldorado.

Ariste says Fromholz, who lives in the area, and his girlfriend were going to hunt feral hogs. A rifle was in a case but unzipped at the bottom. The gun was being transferred from one vehicle to another.

Ariste says Fromholz grabbed the handle, the gun partly fell, hit the ground and discharged.

I remember the Garth concerts at Reed being a huge deal at the time; he was probably at the height of his popularity and a lot of people were surprised that he was going to make a stop at A&M.

Never seen so many fat chicks in Rockies in my life.
