Until recently, nothing. However, in recent years, the term "Cougar" has taken on a different meaning that is not exactly a representation of the innocent Catholic high school girl. Last I heard, they were actually trying to get the mascot name changed.

but it doesn't make any sense in reference to teenage girls, it's a term for older women. i don't see how anyone could possibly make an issue out of this.

I would describe a wampus cat as a large feral cat that lived in the woods. or maybe an offshoot of a bobcat. not sure. buts that the general feel I have from hearing about wampus cats.

You realize mascots and colors are usually completely independent of each other, right? Or were you under the impression that out in the wild, cougars are blue and gold, eagles are red and white, and lions are blue and red?

Lubbock Monterrey Plainsmen

Midland Lee Rebels , school was built and districted to be all white in the 60s, funny seeing the black kids there with confederate flags and singing/playing Dixie

I realize the intention, but does anyone call a sandstorm a sandie? Why not just call the team the sandstorms? It would be like calling yourselves the Brownies and telling everyone it's short for Brown Bears. You're still a dessert.
