Likely not colon CA given age and lack of family hx.

IBD (chrons and ulcerative colitis) are possible even without family hx, although commonly have abdominal pain with.

Could be hemorrhoid or fissure, although also typically painful (if external). Internal hemorrhoids bleed.

Will a definitely need an exam, not necessarily colonoscopy, but possibly at least an anoscope. Sorry for your bottom

It is possible to be much younger than the standard profile age for colon cancer and to have no family history.

I've run into blood with my poo stains on my TP for 8-9 months now (purely an estimation, could be longer). I've left it alone because I see it as a battle of the red guys vs the brown guys on the battlefield of my bottom. Brown guys always win if y'all where wondering.

I've chalked it up to H-roids

Went to the doc, and he said it was most likely anal fissures. I am gonna send a hemocult sample back and hopefully it won't come back positive. I just have massively manly poo that has edges like blades. These blades have cut me open. At least that's what I hope it is.

eat more fiber, drink more water, less straining on the pot


about the occult blood test, you have already seen blood on your stool, so even if or when it comes back (+) it won't mean much

He actually didn't even check anything just explained it away as anal fissures and sent me sample kit. He said if it comes back positive we'll talk more.

its going to come back positive especially if this just occurred. Wait a few days to a week prior to using the fecal occult blood kit. The premise of the kit is screening general population for colon cancer. The fact he gave you one to use with known bleeding is idiotic.

I assure you that straight up blood, like bright red blood, on multiple tissues is most almost for sure, as people above have said, hemorrhoids or anal fissure. The fact that it occurred right after defecation makes this even more probable.

You just wasted a co-pay and some time. He evidently couldn't be bothered to do an actual exam.

If you continue to have problems, go to a Gastro doc. Your GP is not helping here.




Keep in mind I had the same "it's probably nothing serious" diagnosis by a GP, including x-rays of my pelvic area (not sure what they were hoping to see there), about six months before I got diagnosed.

It probably is nothing serious, but if you keep having problems, get someone else to take a look.

The whole "how old are you and do you have a family history?" thing is not as relevant anymore, IMO. I've seen lovely young women in their 20's with breast cancer and even colon cancer.

ye olde pelvic xray for abnormal bleeding is nothing more than charging someone for an X-rays worth of radiation exposure.

If you somehow get a pelvic radiograph...ask your GP if you have a positive Throckmorton's sign.

In all seriousness, CT would be a terrible idea and waste of money.

GP should start off with a rectal exam - in the words of a former mentor, there are only 2 good reasons not to do one:

1. If the physician doesn't have a finger.
2. If the patient doesn't have a rectum.

Most likely internal roids. A fissure is just torn tissue and you would feel the stun of it tearing while straining or if you were cleaning too aggressively. An internal roid can get caught between that torn tissue and become strangulated...that still causes pain enough to be noticeable. That strangulated pod can bleed but to reach that point you would still have some degree of discomfort.

Bleeding diverticulum can be a medical emergency and any bleeding ulcers in the rectum or about the anus would hurt like hell with movements....I vote for internal roids.

You need to seriously increase your fiber intake, drink more water and take a daily stool softener.

Two a day. Now give me your $20 co-pay.
