"Similar interests" in that I found a group of guys that I got along with, shared hobbies and had similar goals after college. What is difficult to understand about that? So what if we also liked to drink and have a good time, that was just on top. If it was a fraternity that was filled with guys that hated sports, thought hunting was morally wrong and liked to play 'Quake' all day, I wouldn't of bothered to join. It may fit for some, but not me.

And what are you implying with "It is NOT about brotherhood"? I know it may be different for some, but my closest friends I met through the fraternity. I have kept in touch with them since I have graduated much better than any of my high school friends or other friends I met in college. In fact, in my wedding coming up this summer, all of my groomsmen were in my fraternity.

Because that's what happens to other Fraternity guys who marry non-sorority girls? Wow, I misjudged you JO, you really do know everything about Greeks. I am sure glad you have taken the time to truly understand these organizations and see past the broad sterotypes and broad gereralizations commonly associated with these groups.

The open-mindedness on texags is really quite refreshing.

Not sure how I "stooped" to personal attacks. Seems they started long before anything I said that may be construed as a personal attack.

Fraternities may not be your thing, and that is fine. You are entitled to that opinion, and that is great, no sweat of my back. But what are you gaining by posting stories of the few bad things that occur in fraternites (and probably likely happen in any group of people, orgainized or not, in any college) every chance you get? What are you gaining by automatically assuming that I am a racist, elitist, daddy's boy who forces 18 year olds to eat their vomit, drink until they nearly die and beat them, and then go and marry either a sorority girl or some chick I drugged? If that floats your boat, guess there is nothing really I can do about it. This argument has grown quite tiresome.

What is everyone's beef with frats? Some members don't take the slightest interest in University activities, that can be said about a lot of students.

Just try not to generalize based on the actions of a few idiots or a few organizations. I happen to be in a frat, and there is alot of brotherhood, and absolutely no hazing b/s. Doubt me? Do you think a former NCO in the U.S. Army would tolerate alot of b.s.? For the record I served with several veterans, both officer and enlisted that were in my very fraternity. Just don't stereotype.

I've never understood why there is so much hate on frats here. Its not like we're beating people down on campus or anything. We just do our own thing. My frat brothers routinely go out with my "non-greek" friends and no distinction is made. My experience has been that the only ones that make an issue of it are people not in fraternities, and then they automatically don't want to have anything to do with us. We participate in all of the other things on campus, like any student organization, and many guys are in several other campus organizations. In what way do we "kill" Old Army or detract from A&M?
