I just learned about it on the all knowing Reddit. Apparently a lot of professional engineers wear a ring on their pinky finger to remind them of the responsibilities and ethics associated with the field.

I work with a LOT of PE's and the only ones I see with pinky rings are indian PEs. Most of the time, I think it is religious.

I have a pinky ring that was my dad's. It was custom made and very nice and I wear it on speacial occasions. Can look good with the right outfit. But I'm also no dorky engineer.

An engineer I work with wears the pinky ring. At first I figured he must be gay, but he had a girlfriend. I didn't figure out the engineer connection until I googled it. It's really dumb.
