I don't keep it in the fridge.
At first I thought it was just contrast to the apple (which I do keep in the fridge); but just off the spoon it's still warm.

On a strangely serious note have you ever thought you could be allergic to peanuts? You can develop allergies later in life and this could be an early sign of gaining sensitivity to it. Used to eat cantaloupe as a kid and now it burns my lips if I have it.

shark has it right. we perceive temperature the only way possible, by the heat transferred to or from out fingertips.

Do you mean warm as in temperature warm or the warmth or heat you experience when you eat a hot pepper?

Wrong. Peanut butter is softer when room temperature, therefore easier to spread. Why would you want it to be hard?
