Aggie Ring etiquette question

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Got a question on ring etiquette. I earned my Aggie ring many years back, but didn't finish my degree at A&M. Life intervened and I left to enter the workforce before graduating.
I later finished my undergrad at another university (night school) in the city I moved to.

I didn't wear it after I left b/c I didn't finish at A&M and I've always regretted it. I'm currently working on my masters from A&M right now (distance learning). My etiquette question is, is it appropriate to wear my old ring? Also been thinking about getting a second ring for grad school when I get to that point. My aggie buddies and I were never well enough versed in Traditions to come up with a definite call.

Input appreciated.

You're not a real Aggie unless you have an Aggie Ring on each finger.

You earned the right to wear the ring, now you just need to earn the right to say you graduated with a degree from TAMU.

Yeah getting a second one might be corny (not talking about wearing two of 'em), but like I said always been sore about not finishing undergrad at A&M. Plus having a 13 or 14 on it at my age would be kinda weird. (Class of 99)

Just make sure you get the AFS to pay for half.

i got my ring in the beginning of my junior year and could've easily dropped out and kept it. ring != graduation, you earned the hours and the cash to get it

as said above, grad school = add diamond, traditionally

Wear the ring, especially after you finish your masters.

Add the diamond when you finish if you want.

It's your ring, you got the hours and paid the money. Life happens. If A&M is where your heart is, you should wear it regardless of any tradition or what anybody says about it.

Just lose it like the rest of us and you won't have to worry about it.

To my memory, wear the Aggie ring "pointed to you" signifying you are still in school. You "earned" (or you used to) earn the right after completing so many hours. Once you've graduated, you can turn the aggie ring towards others signifying you have graduated.

I would just wear the old one.

No diamond no new one.

Wear the **** out of that ring.

One of the "other" traditions that they don't tell you about at Fish Camp, is that you are supposed to lose it inside one of the working girls at the sock and then retrieve it. After this is complete you can wear the ring with full honors.

When did that start? I had a diamond in mine before I even crossed the stage as an undergrad.

Just curious, how common is this ?

(In grad school, that's why I ask)

Apparently there is some misinformation out there. I am nowhere near being a millionaire.

You earned it. Period.

You earned the right to wear the ring before you graduated, just like undergrads. It is taking you a bit longer to earn the TAMU diploma, but you are still coming back to finish.

Rock on, I say.

Diamond for grad school must be "new army." I never heard of it in my day. You could buy the type of ring to hold a stone out of choice. Very few of my classmates, and those I knew, chose the style that could hold a diamond. Almost all of us wanted the beveled out bottom that could not hold a stone.

I had one classmate whom did something interesting. He was class of '75 and his dad was class of '49 (to my memory). His dad passed his ring down to my classmate, and my classmate had "75" etched onto the shield. It was cool looking.

Just to clarify the diamonds can be purchased at anytime. There is no grad school/millionaire requirement. If you can fork over 2500 you can get the five diamonds or whatever.
And wear it OP you earned it by completing the requirements. It does not say that you have to graduate to continue wearing it. The tricky question is whether you turn the class year out. Technically this is a part of graduation where the speaker tells the students to flip their rings. I say face it outwards since you graduated with a degree albeit not from the university.

The diamond for a graduate degree is an old tradition. I was first told about it by '39 grad. However, anyone can do it. I prefer the old tradition. As a few have said, it is a senior ring, not a graduation ring, so you earned the right to wear it when you earned the right to buy it. Turning it outward is a graduation tradition, so once you finish your A&M graduate degree, that "requirement" would be satisfied.

Having said all that, it's your ring and finger, do whatever you want.
