Can something be sealed with blue ink instead of black? I don't know if black ink is a requirement or not.

I don't know about P.E.'s in particular, but it has always been my understanding that blue or black ink are acceptable legal colors.

did a quick search of this and saw no mention of ink color

i've seen stamps that were not straight black, but they were made on an overseas job

Good question. I've never seen anything but black. Then again, I haven't wet sealed anything in three years or so. We always did it electronically.

I think you can seal with blue. Usually we sign and then scan in black and white so it doesn't matter.

Can you not find a black pen?

I know the TBPE specifies that the example stamp you send them must be in black ink. I've never seen any drawings stamped in anything other than black ink. However, few things are actually stamped anymore, most are electronic. There’s really no reason to go with anything other than black.

If a person wants to differentiate between an original and a copy sign across the seal with blue ink.

I'm not referring to the signature - I'm referring to the ink color of the P.E. seal stamp. All I have is a blue stamp pad. I am not a P.E., so I don't know the rules, and I don't want to advise someone to use an ink color that isn't permitted.

My advice, spend the time to use black so that you don't have worry.

It can't be that far to your nearest Office Depot.

I'd just use black, if for no other reason than someone might THINK blue is a problem and raise an issue with it.

I work for the gov't. Do you know what it takes to spend money at Office Depot?

Good gawd, man. They are a couple of bucks. Use your own money and buy one.

Geeze. You are so ingrained into the bureacracy.

You better not waste our money on stamp pads. Print that B out in AutoCad.

I'm just giving you a hard time, CDUB.

I made some calls and found a black ink pad on a different floor. I'd rather be safe than get someone in trouble, even though it's not a set of drawings. This is the first time in almost 6 years I've seen someone need to use an actual rubber stamp P.E. seal.

Speaking of AutoCAD, anyone know where I can get some basic AutoCAD training? I'm working on a project and I'm doing it old school on a table with vellum.

I don't recall it being in the code. When I passed the exam the TBPE “congratulations” package contained an information form that had to be completed and returned to the TBPE. There was a box on the form where you had to provide an example of your stamp and the instructions stated that the stamp must be in black ink.

RTT, I would recommend getting black ink as the problem with other colors is that they do not copy very well.

WOW!!

Only gov't would be this far behind in technology.

Ryan, HCC should have classes for basic AutoCad.

LOL - I'm working on a PERSONAL project at home. I really enjoy working on architectural drawings by hand because it is fun and relaxing, but I forgot how much of a pain in the ass it is.

I've known several engineers that have sealed in various colors. Green and blue were pretty popular for some. The rules don't specify a color. I typically seal in black and sign in blue.

You should just go old school and emboss each drawing separately.

Doing stuff for the City of Dallas we had to submit actual blueprints, I kid you not. This was probably 7 or 8 years ago, but still.

looking at that form now

no instructions as to stamp color were given

just more evidence of the coarsening of our culture

If my parents hadn't moved me to a high school that didn't offer architecture classes my junior year, I would be an architect or engineer today.

If I could run a 4.2, I would not be an engineer today.

I didn't have any architectural classes in HS and became an engineer.

My first high school offered architecture, which I took, but I moved my junior year. Not having architectural courses available to me, I found other things to do and ended up joining the military.

I don't recall ever seeing anything requiring a specific color, but black stamps are the most common. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen anything other than a black stamp.

What firms do you all work for? If you feel comfortable answering, of course.
