The analysis told me a better move was 40. e8=R

A rook?! wtf?!

a queen is a rook + bishop...

Kind of hard to tell without every other pieces position. Maybe your queen would of been far more open to being jumped so it would be better to loose a rook than a rook+bishop

The only way I can think it would be better to promote to Rook instead of Queen would be if the promotion forced a draw, and the lack of diagonal motion would allow your opponent a forced move.

That was not the case here.

The position:

White: e7, f5, g4, h2, Kc1
Black: a5, c6, g7, h6, Kf6
