I hate them and their "Texas Country". I really wish they would find an identity soon. Pearl snap shirts, old cowboy hats, and starched jeans make bad costumes.

Not all of us wear that... My hats look new, my jeans are NOT starched (I can't stand them that way!) and I do not own a pearl snap shirt(and haven't since I was like 10 or so...)

so what about people like me that do starch their jeans, but don't wear the cowboy hat or pearl snapped shirts (generally go to somewhere like dillards or academy or penny's to buy my shirts). what does that make me?

I have a serious question...

What's up with all the starch in the jeans in the first place?

Do country chicks really dig that?

Or is it more of "it's just the way someone did it a long time ago, now everyone does it, and we can't stop now, because it's expected"?

That can't be comfortable.

Who cares?

I have seen many legit country folks that do the same thing...starched wranglers, carharts, etc.

RATO, why don't you pull a few aside at Northside and ask them?

I grew up in the country, and never was a fan of the whole starched jeans and boots look. I have a pair of boots, but probably haven't worn them in 10 years.

I am, however, a fan of Texas Music.

I grew up in the country as well, went to a high school where half the students were rednecks, and I never understood it.

I wear my Carhartt because it is warm. I got a new one for Christmas, my old one was 10 years old and had spent time at Bonfire (actually building it, not just getting drunk and watching it burn) and working the fences and cattle at my grandad's place in Pawelekville, TX. It has had blood, sweat, and fluids from cattle on it, had tears, etc... Does that make me "fake country?" Oh, I still have it hanging in the closet just in case...

Ugh Northside. I like to call that place "Costume Avenue". Especially when some no talent "Texas Country" ass clown is having a show. All the TCU frat daddies pull out their faux scuffed boots, pearl snap shirts, and play rough and tough Texas boy. Amusing really.

ENG, I'm braving the cold next week for a trip to Benbrook. People have been limiting out on white bass back in the Trinity lately. I'll let you know how it goes.
ENG

I guess I haven't been to Northside in a while. Come to think of it, It's been like 10-15 years. I guess things have changed.

Yeah, let me know how the trip goes. You live in Benbrook, don't you? My folks live in North Benbrook, right off Chapin Rd.

You can keep all that cowboy hat & cowboy boots business. I want no part of it
As much as I love living here in Texas, I will never, ever dress like a cowboy. Mostly cos I am not into it, but also if my friends back in London ever found out that I had, my life would be made very very miserable for a long time!

'It's been......emotional'.

Ya, I live in Benbrook on Chapin School Road as well. I live just across from White Stone Golf Club. I'm actually just a few block from that roping arena.

rato,
Why are you worried about it? Are you afraid that in some way they will steal your true clame at wearing boots and a hat? It's obvious what they are as soon as you see them and if you need proof just a breif conversation proves that they have never been on a horse or worked cows in their life. So who cares? There are a lot of things in this world to be worried about people trying to pretend to be something they aren't isn't one of them.

As for the starched jeans, I think it looks good. It isn't uncomforitable at all and keeps a good looking crease. I really don't like the rumpled just pulled them out of the washer look on jeans or dress shirts for that matter.

Chapin School Rd and Chapin Rd are two different roads. Chapin Rd is right off Chapin School Rd a couple miles north of I-20. You know that Gun Club just across I-20 from you, I used to work there, loading trap when I was like 11 yrs old.

So, me wearing starched jeans, pearl snap western shirts, boots and stetson is a bad thing.

I grew up on a ranch and that's the way I dress, and always will.

The thing that really cracks me up is to watch a lot of you young ones walking around in those baggy jeans that look like you're carrying a load around with you.

I think you misunderstand. People like you are no problem. It's the fake ass wannabes that I laugh at. You know, the ones that grew up in the burbs that wouldn't know a steers mouth from a pig's ass but still like to play costume and pretend to be real country.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
isnt cowboy/country attire based on what one wears to WORK on a ranch? ie boots, jeans, a hat, long sleeve shirts, etc (I'm a city boy so I'm guessing)

I'm wondering though, what DOES a person that actually WORKS on a ranch full-time wear when they dress up go out to eat, or to a concert or something?

I grew up in Irving, but spent just about every weekend at my grandfather's place in Arkansas or out at the deer lease towards Abilene... I don't wear starched jeans (actually usually Gap jeans) but wear boots because they're extremely comfortable and listen to Texas Country because I like it. Any time I don't have to wear slacks for work, you'll find me wearing boots and jeans. Just because I live in the city doesn't mean I have to wear tennis shoes.

Besides, after going to A&M I would figure that you would at least respect boots, jeans, and country music - that's Texas, like it or leave it.

Pawelekville, TX?!?

I actually know where that is. Used to drive past the "town" often.

Graybeard,

I have attended many concerts, plays, etc while living in Houston and San Antonio.

I do not wear formal or semi-formal attire.

I do wear, Starched Dress Shirt with tie, New starched jeans and boots. Oh, and the Dress Stetson is always taken.

Please, please tell me you weren't one of the Dallas types who would come to the West Texas deer lease wearing head to toe camo were you?

While I wear boots and jeans whenever possible, it's stricly a comfort issue for me. For some reason, boots just feel better on my feet than laced shoes (and I'll never wear loafers, particularly tassled ones--us lawyers take enough grief). I grew up helping my Dad on the ranch on a regular basis, so jeans were just practical everyday wear for school and work. Now, I've never starched my jeans (or ironed them, for that matter), and I wear Levi's rather than Wranglers. I also don't own any pearl snap shirts--in fact, I'm wearing a Tommy Hilfiger shirt today. So, Nocona boots, Levi's jeans, and a Tommy Hilfiger shirt--where does that rank me on the faux cowboy scale, considering that I'm at my law office today, in a town with more than a handful of stoplights (although I will be going to Archer City this afternoon to file a suit)?

I spent all day yesterday at the HLSR with my dairy juding team. I saw lots of folks that were dressed up. Seems that all look forward to an opportunity to live out their fantasy of being from the country, even if only for a few days or if only in their minds. Some look really foolish in their "country" garb. About as foolish as I do when I dress in "business casual" for meetings and what not for my employer. I bet some are actually uncomfortable and can't wait to "dress down".

I don't wear camo because there's no need to. We have deer stands and I pretty much wear whatever I want/will keep me warm. Usually it's jeans, boots, and a long sleeve shirt and coat if it's cold.

It's a deer lease in name only... my family has owned the land for a while now. It's not huge, but our neighbor runs cattle on it in exchange for planting a 40 acre field so we don't have to pull the tractor from Arkansas for planting.

Unless you're bow hunting, there is no real need for camo.

Personally, I grew up on the funk called P, but these mf'ers are growing up on me. So, when I am in my car, I play Clinton. But, when I am on the stage, I start pimping.
