We have yet to arrive in a postracial America, but a new study finds evidence that racial barriers are coming down: between 1980 and 2008, the rate of interracial marriage between blacks and whites increased rapidly, even outpacing marriage between whites and other ethnic groups, including Asians, Hispanics and American Indians.

In 1980, only 5% of black men married white women; in 2008, 14% did. Still, the total number of marriages between blacks and whites remains smaller than those between whites and other racial and ethnic groups. Compared with blacks, proportionally more men in other groups marry outside their race: for example, 38% of Asian American men and Hispanic men married white women in 2008.

This is one of the biggest signs of true racial integration. It shows how far we've come from institutionalized segregation.

At its most basic form, segregation is tied to geographic distance. This is the 'black neighborhood', you drink from that water fountain over there. Whether overtly or stemming from gentrification which 'prices out' unwanted ethnic groups, geographic distance is directly tied to segregation.

When most overt forms of this were outlawed in the Civil Rights Bill, geographic indicators of distance were rendered null, but a new phenomenon emerged: what sociologists refer to as 'social distance'. So just because our schools and neighborhoods are integrated doesn't mean that as a nation we actually care about other ethnic groups or consider them our equal.

How can you tell if this negative attitude persists despite apparent unity? Social distance is based on questions like, "how supportive would you be if a member of ______ ethnic group married your daughter". The level of support or opposition is an indicator of whether or not defacto prejudice lingers despite dejure integration.

It's because white dudes have figured out that asian women not only have awesome personalities and still know how to do crap around the house while getting advanced degrees and making bank, but they also don't catch a case of the fat bomb like white women do.

Also, it's pretty easy to get Asian chicks, because they are used to small wieners, so even if you just have a slightly above average white dude wiener, they think you are Godzilla, so you're pretty much golden.

That leaves a bunch of fat white women who can't do chores and hold down a good job out of the white dude market. Luckily for them, black dudes don't like thin chicks, so it works out perfectly.

In the long run, we'll probably see a bunch of asian dudes marrying black chicks.

Note, my old lady is probably curvier than most asian ladies (she's pretty big for chicks I date, somewhere between a 2-4 in the waist, and a 32c), so maybe that's why I don't see it that way.
