OK, so took the family to sea world a couple weeks ago. We make our way over to the water park area and I go over to the changing room. Now for you ladies that have never been in a men's changing room, there are no stalls to change in privately. It's a big room with some wooden benches and dudes just walking around letting it all hang out, alright.

So anyway i'm done changing and putting my clothes back in the bag, and in walks this dude with a girl I'm assuming is his daughter, probably about 10 or 11. I'm like WTF? Does this idiot not know how much **** his daughter just saw in that room? She wasn't too shy about looking around either.

Is there any reason y'all would ever think that's ok or appropriate? Little kids I can see, and sometimes you don't have a choice. But a girl that age can wait outside for a few minutes.

Thats pretty weird. I wasn't allowed in the women's changing room at that age.....or now.

It sucks, but I can understand why he wouldn't want to leave her standing outside alone.

Could be from Finland where they are used to casual nudity in Finish saunas.

On a related note, my wife and I went to Sante Fe a couple years ago for a holiday getaway. She, like most women, wanted to do a day at the spa. So, we find a 'hot springs spa' to go to, figuring I would have a hot tub to chill out in while she gets a pedicure. After checking in and changing my wife is asked if she would like to go to the 'women's only' area or 'communal' while she waits for here pedicure. I was not given a choice, communal for me - so my wife decides she doesnt want to be alone and joins me in the communal area. We walk into the communal to find it to be about 70% male, average age 65yrs. Not a single one had clothing on. The women were also nude, but not all of them.

There was a family of four there, of European origin, and both of the parents were nude. The kids, a boy and girl, were about 8 (boy) 12 (girl) yrs!! We could not get over how awkward it was for those kids. They were in a hot tub with about 6 other people, 4 or so were men in their 50-60's and they were nude. The kids had clothes on.

Needless to say, my wife was not comfortable and we only spent about 5min there. Waste of money.

Silly Euros.

The first time I went to a sauna in Germany I was SHOCKED (I was 6). But there's so much nudity over there that it's not really a big deal like it is here.

Saw the nude beaches in Nice, France. Thought it was hilarious.

K05, nudity in certain parts of Europe, particularly in "saunas" and "spas" is so normal that to be clothed in a sauna is actually considered rude. Those kids may have been feeling awkward simply because they were having to spend time with their parents.... not as a result of the nudity.

Yeah, I get it - but unfortunately we were in New Mexico, not Europe. Granted, it was a clothing optional area, so they were not doing anything wrong or unacceptable, but that didnt make things any less uncomfortable for me and the misses.

Finnish saunas are reportedly so hot that to wear any clothing at all is to invite burns.

As someone posted on one of these boards a year or so ago, it is common for entire families from kids to grandparents to be in the sauna together. And also quote common for strangers of all ages.

Not appropriate. Most places like that have family dressing rooms. Should have looked for or asked for that. In any event, the kid was old enough to go into the ladies room on her own.

I have two boys ages 8 and 5. They now go into the men's room if they are together. They are to talk to no-one, go in and do their business and come back out. I wait at the door. If the little one is alone with me, I'll take him into the ladies room with me - maybe for another year.

Tougher for guys with little girls. Again, look for a family room - a lot of places have them. My brother in law would look for either an older woman or a woman with kids and ask her to escort his girls in. By the time they are potty trained, they know how to go in a stall, shut the door and go on their own. Wiping is a different matter, but if you give them flushable wipes, most can handle it.

Perhaps she was mentally disabled making it dangerous for her to be left alone?

there's a sign outside the locker room at my gym that says "children older than 5 years old (i think) will not be allowed in the locker room of the opposite sex."

I do wonder what the "playing doctor" ratio for kids in europe is compared to the US where that is pretty much the only way for US kids to see what the other sex looks like under their clothes.

That is just distrusting. I wouldn't let my daughter at any age go into a Mens locker room.

If they were from Finland they would have all been laughing and whipping each other's bare asses with twigs. I hear that's very common over there.

is the OP title asking if we'd prefer a 10 year or 11 year old in the men's changing room?
