I believe ID is now requiring students to pass MATH 151 and 152 and PHYS 218 and 208, effective last semester with current ID students grandfathered out of having to. The eventual goal is to make it so ID grads are eligible to be PEs. I expressed to one of the profs on the committee that a dual-track system might be better, because a ton of ID students are there because they couldn't pass those 4 classes.

I was ID... there are definitely a lot (though not all) engineering dropouts, and a number of people who have no business being in the college of engineering. On the other hand, there are a few people that are extremely sharp and qualified to do a lot of different things. Like most degrees, there is a wide range of abilities within IDIS.

Engineering Technology combines scientific and engineering knowledge and methods to craft engineering design skills for a production or manufacturing environment. Engineering Technologists also find challenging careers in the sales, installation and servicing of highly specialized technological equipment. This discipline consists of three distinct undergraduate programs, Electronics, Manufacturing & Mechanical, and Telecommunications.

Industrial Distribution applies mathematics, science, engineering technology, business, data processing, communications and total quality management to the wholesaling and distribution of technological products. As an industrial distribution specialist, you may work directly for electronic systems manufacturers, petrochemical corporations, materials processors, large construction contractors, large industrial product consumers or the wholesale distributors that service these industries. Industrial Distribution consists of an undergraduate program, Industrial Distribution, and a graduate program, the Master of Industrial Distribution.

I don't want to get into a fight Moto. I'm not a "Hot Shot MEEN" student. I am a ME student because it's the engineering discipline that interests me the most. I fully understand that there is two very different groups of people in IE. There's those that are truly interested in simulation, statistics, distribution, logisitics, and the sort and then there's those who couldn't handle their previous major and switched into IE.
And yes, I transfered into IE because I was denied to ME but with 92 hrs I was not forced to take freshman intro courses. And I found Stat 211 and 212 to be boring which is why I transfered out of IE because I wasn't interested in the degree.

civil engineers are the only real engineers.

everyone else is a poser.

all i needed to know. basically, it's as useful as getting jobs where you dont need a degree.

Yes, because I need a degree to play with dirt. That geo lab is bs from what I hear from my roommate.

actually i take it back.

engineers are, in every way, inferior to doctors.

in every way.

My mechanical and nuclear engineering roommates always used to complain, and spent countless hours locked in their rooms while I went out to northgate to dominate. Poor guys, they always envied my work load. However, thats going to change for incoming freshman next semester. OMG they have to take calculus based physics!?!?! What!?!? Math 152!?! What!?!? Wait, metallic materials is now mandatory?!? What!? Wait, so I can't take industrial/organizational psych as my tech elective!? What!?!

ID-10T is the required field of study with ID majors.

I looked at that degree plan, looks like what one would take if they were interested in being a glorified machinist, perhaps a supervisor of machinist. I met a lot of "characters" waiting in their advising office.

Yea, you could definitely tell the culture difference in Thompson. You could tell who were ID and who were ENTC. Those ENTC people can be pretty weird at times.

there is a plant back home that calls their operators "process engineers". You basically have to pass one test to get the job.

Is there a consensus on this board about toughest majors? I graduated with a biomedical science degree but I would have to say NukeENG/ChemEng > MechENG/ElecENG > BIMS/Bio >>> CivilENG >> ID >>>>> Business >>>>>>> LibArts >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ag majors

Civils still take thru diff eq, even take ochem for environmental. Bims stop at cal 2?
Dr. Ag 2015
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The overwhelming majority of civil majors don't take Ochem, and they don't have to take biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology. I know most other engineering majors are more difficult than BIMS, but civil? Don't kid yourself. A large portion of the people I hangout with are civil and even they agree.

Guess I'll speak up for ENTC since I graduated with the Manufacturing and Mechanical degree. I took all the math and physics you guys did minus DiffEq.

Yeah there are a lot more process and manufacturing classes than straight MEEN but I think it gives us a leg up. Industry tends to agree. ENTC has an Industrial Advisory Board made up of Boeing, Mustang, FMC, XOM, and others that recommend the curriculum based on their engineering needs. They have said that the current ENTC represents more the hands on MEEN of 30 years ago. MEEN has become more theory based and isn't producing the real-world "ready" engineers that it used to.

I am much more technically savvy than pure MEEN co-workers (Granted they are Tceh and Baylor grads...)

I passed the Mechanical FE exam on the first attempt.

I design OCTG premium connections and I work frequently with lathes and the education at A&M as an ENTC student gave me the knowledge to rapidly become acquainted with the tools and techniques of the industry.

Is there a more worthless 'tough' major than Biomedical Science? NewsFLASH - You can still do Pre-Med and have a real major. I was BIMS for 2 years before I moved over to Biomedical Engineering. And I'd say engineering>>>>>Bims, by about a mile. Bims is just a bunch of memorizing stuff. You memorize stuff in engineering and you'll fail out.
IronRed13

Oh and I'll agree the ID is a complete joke.

ID =/= ENTC

Same department and building, but a completely different world. Those guys are morons

newsflash for you...medical school, vet school, dental school, pharmacy school, is all just a bunch of memorizing stuff.

BUT BY ALL MEANS TAKE A MAJOR WAY MORE DIFFICULT JUST SO YOUR PEEN WONT LOOK SO SMALL.
