from the good people of Itasca, Texas. I was preparing to pay the fine but was wondering what the "Driving Safety Course (DSC) that was listed on the ticket was about? Is this a way to get the fine lowered?

Anyway I can't do it because I'm from out of state but was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this.

Defensive Driving

Would get ticket dismissed assuming you did take DD in the previous year.

I think.....

doesn't reduce the fine, but keeps it from being a hit on your record

Yes, small towns in Texas love to nail big city folk speeding through their Mayberry-esque towns. It's a common occurrence. They way to avoid that is to not speed.

Those mf-ers know how to make it so you don't know you are speeding.

I.e. 70 MPH freeway, speed limit slows down to 55MPH at the start of the town, so you slow down, but then you don't notice the NEXT speed limit sign 50 yards down from the 55 that now posts the speed to 40MPH. Barney Fife is waiting for you 10 yards past the 40 MPH sign with ticket in hand.

I was going 81 in a 70 MPH zone on I-35.

Ironically, I was trying to drive very fast away from Baylor's FB stadium. We had stopped by Waco just to see how Baylor looked. Found the stadium (looks like a HS one) but the neighborhood looked very shady, and that's being kind.

A) all 50 states extradite so you should take care of it
B) for in state residents, doing an approved driver safety course takes the ticket off your record and waives the fine, but it costst some money to take the class
C) deferred disposition is something where you get probation instead of paying the fine I think, I've never done it.

Fill out paperwork, pay a fine, on driving "probation" (don't get ticket), after x number of months (6, I think) the ticket is dismissed and not put on your record. You must send paperwork in near the completions of probation period (notarized).

quote:
Request Deferred Disposition (traffic):

On traffic cases if you are not eligible for a Driving Safety Course and have not been placed on deferred disposition ( "deferred" ) in the past twelve months for a traffic offense, you may request to be placed on deferred. If you are placed on deferred, the judge will give you a series of conditions that you are to comply with by specific deadlines. The term of the deferred cannot exceed beyond the term of 180 days. You must, by law, pay at least the state fees at the time you are placed on deferred. The normal cost of a deferred is fine plus $50 and state fees. (If you have a commercial driver license, you are not eligible for this option.)

The terms of your probation include but are not limited to: immediate payment, cannot receive any traffic citation, keep your address updated with the court during the deferred period, and must file a notarized statement of compliance with the court during the last two weeks of your probationary period.

Non-compliance with any of the terms will result in a conviction and immediate collection of the full range of fine and state fees.
