I htink it has to do with the main ingredients - sour cream and mayo. NOT SAFE in a bottle on a shelf.

If you can get Ken's ranch dressing down there, I've found that it is much better than the other off the shelf options. Still not as good as restaurant, though.

the ORIGINAL Hidden Valley Ranch brand used mayo, not salad dressing and BUTTERMILK and was to die for...if you had that then nothing else compares.

A close second is to get the HVR dry packet and make it using buttermilk and mayo and do that at least 24 hours before you want it...start with room temp mayo and let the flavors blend while in the fridge.

kraft ranch pasta salad is freaking delicious as well.

cook the pasta, add in mayo, and stir in the ranch powder.

some of the best tasting ranch i've ever had.

1. Buy good mayo.
2. Add buttermilk, garlic, a little salt, and black pepper.
3. Puree in blender or food processor.
4. Stir in chopped chives.
5. Let sit in refrigerator for at least six hours.
6. ???????????????
7. Profit.

Do you keep mayo around?

Mayo plus a little milk to thin out. Squeeze of lemon, salt, pepper, a little garlic powder, dill, and crushed parsley flakes. Make as much or as little as you need any time you want.

I have this same issue with Whataburger ketchup.

I dream of the day they bottle that stuff and sell it.

Many restaurants make their ranch fresh. That would be the reason why it tastes better than bottled stuff. Duh.

hooter's ranch is the powdered packets with buttermilk and real mayo added

Way back when Gumbys had some allsome ranch. Some of the best I've ever had. Of course, I also never had it sober so my memory may be a bit skewed.

Gumby's is still the ****!!!!!! Had it about a week ago.....allsome!!

real mayonaise, real mayonaise is key, find the cheapes fattiest stuff at the store, butter milk and orchard park ranch mix.
