Nothing "overly aggie" about painting a room aggie maroon. I would say anyone making that claim could use a bit more aggie enthusiasm in their blood.

1906 - "Aggie Maroon" is the Pantone color name. Call your SW guy back and see if that is enough.

We had some of our game room painted in maroon. Sherwin Williams 6300. It's named burgundy, but it's darker than that. It was an ultra deep base with a matte finish. We also used a gray primer. You will have to do at least 3 coats.

The result is a very close match to the Adidas maroon.
