Does the size of the engagement ring matter to you?

I ask this because when in new york, i realized most girls there are like 2 carats + is the standard, and from what i've noticed, that's about right.

I know my mom didnt care what my dad gave her (he prolly could've gotten away with a ring pop ) and there are lots of girls like that.

What say yall?

A 2c ****ty cut ring doesn't even compare to a nice cut. You can spend all the money you want on the size but if it's not cut right it won't shine for crap.

Mine is less than a carat but internally flawless. It's shines like crazy. Also, feels like it's too big for my hand. I can't imagine wearing anything larger.

Size matters, but not when it comes to engagement rings.

to tell you the truth, if i were a girl, i wouldnt care about it at all. I care more about clothes and watches than rings

That's what I did with my fiancées ring. It's just under a carat but I spent more on the cut to make it look better.

I love seeing a beautiful engagement ring. I don't wear jewelry of any kind, but that would be an exception. That being said...and this will be the only mushy-lovey crap you'll ever read from me...I would take a cheap gold band any day if it's from someone who I'm in love with. BLAH, I know. But I've never been in love, and I think if I did experience that feeling, it would be worth giving up a pretty ring.

im also more about the cut of the diamond than the size. the diamond in mine is BEAUTIFUL and h98 gets so many compliments on it for being such a pretty diamond. its also a great size imo

I seriously doubt new yorkers are spending 12-15,000 for the "standard" engagement ring. Thats what you pay for an average quality 2c

I want my grandmother's ring. Its not very big but has a lot of sentimental value for me. Its probably smaller than I would pick out for myself but the meaning behind it far outweighs the size of the rock.

i dont think you understand the difference in mentality between people here and those in nyc

opulence is on a whole different level when it comes to gaudy jewelry and weddings and parties

Everyone I know has gone with 2 carat minimum. Pretty much sealed my decision never to get married.

I always thought that I'd be happy with a high quality 1 carat. Any single stone bigger than 1.5 would be too big for me personally.

That being said, my fiance's mother wanted me to have her engagement ring. It's a really unique ring that was made in the 1920s. His father bought it for her at an antique store 30 years ago. It has 12 small diamonds in a setting that is impossible to describe. Total weight is roughly 1.5 carats. It is perfectly suited for me, and it's sentimental value is priceless. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world! My mother gave me my Grandparents' wedding rings, and we're having a custome jeweler make both of our bands out of those. That way, we have something special from both families. This makes me happier than any 2 carat "new" ring ever could.

when i get engaged, the girl is getting my great grandmother's ring b/c that's what my grandmother wanted. if the chick doesn't want that, then i'm not marrying her.

I don't mind getting married but if a girl wants a ring then she can buy her own. I don't plan on wearing one and couldn't care less if she did either.

my first engagement ring was .10c and it is now in our second daughter's Aggie ring

for our first anniversary we replaced that stone with a half carat

on our 16th anniversary a single, wide band was made from family gold and that half carat stone was surrounded by eight stones averaging .25c for a total of about 2.5ct total

size matters to a point, it needs to be visible, but whatever your groom to be can afford is what matters...he bought us a home before he bought my final ring

so one day you may find the love of your life, and if she doesn't like your grandmother's ring the deal is off?

You have this backward. If she cops a bridezilla attitude she's not the love of anyone's life but her own.

i'm going to go with the lundquist family tradition of no engagement rings for my woman aka having the poors.

Why change this wonderful tradition...engagement rings are about as stupid as engagement photos

The size of the finger has a lot to do with what the size the rock should be, imo.

I bought my wife a 1.2ct emerald-cut diamond for an engagement ring. Due to the emerald cut, it looks as big as a 2ct diamond. However, I also got a very good cut and clarity. She loves it and gets compliments from everyone, and due to some savvy shopping on my part the ring only cost $5K.

Win, win.

Material has it right. The type of girl that would have a problem with wearing that ring isn't the type i'd date. I'll know long before we get to the point of me handing over a ring.

4.25 size ring finger on my fiance, so I would say ring size definitely matters in picking size as well. You stick anything larger than 1.0 carat on there and it will look gaudy.

As long as you get it cut right, G or better color, and VS2 or better clarity, you don't need a giant rock.
