I worked for a guy who claimed to do "black ops" in Vietnam...he's a bit of a storyteller but he either had a wildly active imagination or was telling the truth. I like to think his stories are real.

Do "black ops" personnel fly in black helicopters or white planes?

My good friend and fellow karate student is a sniper for the ATF. Has some really cool stories. He gets called all over the country and either runs sniper position or breach entry.

the other day he was in Fort Worth making some sort of bust on a South American gang and he was sniper. Once the breach was made, a guy came from the side of the house with a gun in his hand. He had the trigger about 75% depresssed and was going to take him out when the perp dropped his gun.

That night I was with him at karate and he told me about this and said "that dude has no idea how close he came to dying today. I'm glad he didn't; I'd still be filling out paperwork at the office".

You do Karate?

few things:

1) my father-in-law was a navy seal, then military contractor (too many trips to Iraq/Afgh to count). He is a cool guy, tough as nails, but doesn't tell a lot of stories.

2)my grandfather before he died, as he was getting more and more ill, had to have an MRI. He started freaking out and yelling about stuff. At his funeral, my dad talked to some of the guys he served with asking them if they knew or could make sense of what he was yelling about and they told him stories that his dad would never share with him. He'd tell stories over and over about the guys that he served with and under him how they were brave, etc, but not about himself.

3) my dad is a doc who works about 1/2 the time at the VA. he constantly meets guys who want to blabber on about how badass they were in Vietnam, etc. Then there are other guys who you can't pry a story out of them for months. He's learned that the guys that are the most quiet are also the ones with multiple bronze stars, purple hearts, etc.

I definitely agreed that in general the more humble, the more crazy the stories get. The guy I worked for never wants to talk about details, and only once have I heard him tell any stories beyond joking around with the other employees about guttin' em. (its a machine shop, he's not just crazy)

My neighbor in Battle Creek, Mi was a Navy Seal and he was a bad ass. Someone tried to break into his house and he put him in the hospital for 4 months.
