Was reading this article re: employers and tattooed employees.

Who are some people you consider classy?

just wondering

I fully realize that "class" is really in the eye of the beholder, and to answer your question, I relate "classy" (on the external) to a clean, refined, sharp, polished look...and tattoos don't really reflect a clean look to me. I'm sure there are many that have a different idea of what the consider to be a "classy" look and feel otherwise.

I guess I should have worded my question better and asked if, despite one's personal opinion of what defines "classy," if someone ever gets a tattoo with the intent for it to look classy.

I hear a hibiscus on your side is pretty classy.

No.

Tats are disgusting and trashy looking.

I think that classy and tattoos can go together. Imo, 'classy' is a clean, polished outward appearance coupled with wit (one of the best indicators of intelligence imo), charm and an affable personality.

I think classy people can have tattoos, and have tattoos that show on a regular basis. A huge skull and crossbones tattoo is not classy...because it outwardly takes away from the idea of having a friendly demeanor. While I don't know Angel personally, if I saw her out at an event, where we all had to be cleaned up and 'classy' looking, and her tattoo was showing, I would not think she was less classy for having it. In fact, depending on the dress she was wearing, her tattoo might enhance the appearance of the total package.

Tattoos are art, nothing more, nothing less. Some art is raw and graphic, some art is classy and sophisticated, and some art is crude and distasteful...and each person sees different art as different things.

If I were an employer, I wouldn't be solely concerned about the outward appearance of the tattoo, but I would see the presence of a tattoo as tell-tale evidence of that person's judgment, no matter what the tat looks like. It's not purely superficial to me.

I don't think that tattoos should play a role in the determination of someone's judgment...but my tattoos are so well hidden that I have to be willing to show them to you, or you are the person in my life that is allowed to see me topless.

Again, this is just me and my personal opinion I'm talking about, but considering the thought process that (one would hope) goes into making the decision to pay a large sum of money to permanently ink something on your body, it would definitely be evidence of that person's judgment skills if I were an employer.

e.g. If you're going to get a tattoo, making sure it's somewhere where it can't be seen in public (or by a potential employer or client) would be a relatively good judgment call.

I can see that, but people pay large sums of money for things that I consider frivolous quite regularly.

To each, their own...of course.

As an employer I could use that same mindset in your decision to buy the car you did. I have to see it everyday in the parking lot, as do our clients. I, and our clients, like BMW and think you have poor judgment for spending your money on a Honda.

And that would absolutely be your right. As an employer, you have the right to get the people you want as your employees.

But in all actuality you are the best qualified for the job...but you have Honda.

You don't bring your Honda or BMW into an interview and 99% of the time clients don't see what you drive.

I've got a tattoo and I'm classy. So is it.

I'm at work right now and my tattoo is covered. If you see me after work and I'm wearing short sleeves I'll show it to you. If you go swimming with me just look at my right arm on the bicep, where the Good Lord meant tattoos to go.

As to tattoos on the hands, face, neck, etc.: A freak flag is a wonderful thing to have. But that doesn't mean you need to fly it all the time.

Footnote: I'm considering classy to be a synonym for discreet.

Yet it would be wrong of me as an employer to consider the tattoos and piercings all over his face as a factor in not hiring him, because I'm sure every single one of his tattoos and piercings were a result of very sentimental, personal, and well thought-out decision making processes.

Do I think tattoos are "classy"...no. Do i LOVE my tattoo? YES. But I thought a long time about placement, artist, and size. I will not show my tattoo in my wedding dress which I consider the "classiest" I will ever be. My tattoo really only shows when I am in a bathing suit because it is at bra line. They definitely can be trashy but saying all tattoos are is stupid. Lots of tattoos have a lot of meaning to the person, cost a lot, and aren't drunken mistakes.

No, there is no such thing. And making your body a memorial to someone is not classy.

wear it with pride, angel.

don't let those bra straps tarnish your symbol. ill support any decision to discontinue their use if they persist to distract from the beacon on your back.

I sure hope that person is a tattoo artist!

I can't imagine that tattooing somebody with your eyes shut would be easy.

If I ever have a tattoo, it will be a work of art:
