I don't know how I missed this thread before.
My oldest daughter was exactly the same size, although she came out two weeks later (29 weeks}. These pictures REALLY bring back some memories. Except for the fact that my daughter was always on room air, the pictures look exactly like her. For what it's worth, my daughter never had any after effects as a result of her small birthweight. She is still tiny, but given the fact that she, her mother and her sister don't add up to an off sides penalty when you take the sum of their heights, I don't think being premature was the primary factor when it came to her size.
We didn't have the typical hospital birth pictures, so we asked them to take a footprint of her tiny feet, I copied them on adhesive paper, and we sent out birth announcements with footprints on them. I think the selection for preemie clothes these days is much better than it was when my daughter was born, but we resorted to getting "Cabbage Patch Preemie" clothes (especially sleepers) and they were still too big but they fit her pretty well when she went home at 4 lbs. 5 oz.
One other thing we did when we took her home was to get her a teddy bear that was bigger than her (not hard to find) and take a picture of her next to the teddy bear once a week for a year. It was a great way to track her growth and she loves looking at those pictures now. On her first birthday, we took a picture of her holding the teddy bear in her lap.
Congratulations. When you take her home, it will be like celebrating her birth all over again. And one more thing: when our daughter came home after over two months in the NICU, she would not sleep unless there was a lot of noise and light. She didn't like the dark, and she didn't like quiet.
