Trouts: unless you are saying that Dr. Duble and the turf management team on campus are wrong, I think you are mistaken.

Zoysia can survive ice b/c of its deep root system, but considering it is an invasive grass, it will be destroyed by the warm season grasses.

Considering I studied under them for 4 years, I can guarantee you that you are incorrect. I planted my brothers yard (Galveston) in Palisades zoysia this past spring, and it is beautiful. The fairways on the Nicklaus course (The Woodlands) are zoysia as well. You may be confusing Fescue with zoysia.

Fescue will do well in the more arid parts of Texas. North of Dallas I think it is quite common.

question:

are fecues a viable option here in Texas?

Fecue is a cool-season grass that won't thrive south of Dallas.
It works well in North Texas and the Panhandle.

As long as I can take her down to Kokomo.

We will get there fast, but then take it slow.

That is where we want to go.

I had bermuda in my back yard when we moved into our house. I just plugged in St Augustine (spaced maybe 2ft apart) in May...cut high, watered well, and it choked out the bermuda by July.

cheer is allergic to bermuda, very bad. I lose what is left of my hearing due to allergies. SUCKED when my parents owned a ranch and they grew BERMUDA to feed the cattle and sell for hay.

really? it's pretty common, one of many grass allergies. I'm allergic to Bermuda and Johnson. I like to just play it safe and prefer that when Cru and I have a house, we just plant SA and be done with it. then at least we're not dragging in Bermuda/Johnson pollen in the house.

You would be miserable with my job. I guess I never heard of it because the only thing I am allergic to (that I am aware of) if pollen from Giant Ragweed, that stuff kills me.

I've never even gotten poison ivy (knock on wood) believe me I have pressed my luck on that one.

I went completely deaf for about a week due to allergies during my senior year at A&M. It was fun staring helplessly at professors in class as they tried to talk to me from 2 feet away.

try having this happen to you for a week at a time, once or twice a month, every spring and early fall. oh yea, and dust is a trigger as well, so I had episodes all year round, just more of them in the spring and fall. my ENT's office has had a lot of money from me over the past few years.

fortunately, it seems to have calmed down now that I've moved out of the dorms and am not exposed to so much dust.
