Never bought fireworks before but want to get some this year for the kiddos. I have a 6 year old and 2 year old, so are there any that are safe for my 6 year old to actually handle?

Sparklers maybe?

First INTENSE parent supervision.

Second, there are some things that when you light them they make snakes sort of--little pills that grow.

I don't remember what they are called.

Sparklers but they get REALLY hot so make sure you don't turn your back a second.

In general that is so young they mainly need to just watch.

yeah i figured they may be too young to participate, but wasn't sure. What about some decent ones to set off that are safe for them to at least be around??

i was setting off bottle rockets at age 5. seriously, just supervise your kids.

and teach them how to fire roman candles at eachother. :-D

snakes are what the things are called

And the colored smoke bombs might work.

Also other are some things you throw on the ground and they make a popping noise--no lighting of fuse required.

But intense supervision is the best key.

just buy like 10 boxes of M1000's and tell them to have at it. let them blow up whatever they want while you just sit in the house and drink beer.

tell them to light bottle rockets and hold it in their hand until they feel it pull a little then let go. also, shooting them down the street is fun too.

like the poster said above. letting them have roman candle fights is also a must.

Whistling bungholes, spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker dont's, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, whistling kitty chasers.

I think I was about the elder's age when I was first being allowed to light fireworks under my grandfather's supervision - wasn't really lighting the night stuff, but was going crazy on the day stuff.

With sparklers, get the ones w/ the wooden handles, not the metal ones.

It all depends on how dumb your kids are.

We used to get the little boats that you lit and then put in the pool that would drive around and shoot off the planes over the fence into the neighbors yard.. that and poppers and cherry bombs

how about tanks or chickens

you light them step back and the tank shoots little fireworks.

The chicken walks along and lays little firework eggs.

Again parent supervision is a must

Ghetto sparklers:

Give them a lighted wood punk and have them wave it around in the dark.

Are they legal within COCS?

Bryan?

Brazos County with the burn ban?

...and how enforced is it here?

They are not legal within either city, and I think the ban extends to a certain distance outside the city limits. They are not only illegal to shoot, but also to possess.
