My wife is a middle school teacher and from the stories I've heard, many teachers are more concerned with what another teacher is or isn't doing than they themselves are doing. Nobody wants to do anything extra than what they have been assigned to do. That's a great model for the kids.

As a Teacher this could not be further from the truth. Especially core teachers, they are responsible to make sure that their students pass TAKS for their subject and they will do whatever it takes to make sure of that. If your wife is an elective teacher this may be true, but I doubt it.
