A loud party or noise violation falls under the Texas Penal Code Section 42.01 Disorderly Conduct (a)(5): a person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly; makes unreasonable noise in a public place other than a sport shooting range, or in or near a private residence that he has no right to occupy. Disorderly Conduct is a Class C Misdemeanor and is punishable by fine up to $ 500.00.
Correct, typical fine is in the $350 to $400 range.
Also, very crappy of College station to charge under the Texas penal code instead of using its own city ordinance. Under the city ordinance, they can collect the same fine, but it doesn't carry the consequences of a disorderly conduct around for 5 years (like having to list on some job applications, can't get a CHL). Many people make dumb decisions in college, and something as stupid as this one shouldn't have to follow them around. If you're ever given the choice between an MIP and a noised violation, take the MIP. It will be worse up front, but in the end in won't affect you as much.
For the record, I never got a noise violation, just know several that dealt with the consequences (GF can't get a CHL for another 2 years or so because sophomore year her roommates threw a party and she didn't leave, all 3 got noise violations).
