This is what a glaser safety slug does

Its called a "safety slug" because it does not have the penetration to go through walls. It is basically 30 or so BB sized lead pellets in cased in a copper jacket.

Loaded and chambered when it is on my hip. No great place to keep it at home with the current set up so it is not chambered when at home.

they are expensive, but worth it imo. hope to never fire one, but i've got 6 just in case.

more info: http://www.dakotaammo.net/products/glaser/glaser.htm

also, i use their cor-bon hollow points.

Without a safety I would not have a round chambered.

Spend some time on the range practicing the Israeli Draw and you will be fine.

The home defense weapon is a Remington 870 tactical. Full mag, empty chamber. I want the bad guy to hear the pump action.
A chilling sound.

I keep a Glock .40 in the nightstand with the slide back and a mag loaded with hollow points next to it. I just have to put the mag in and press the slide release and it's ready to fire. I figure if someone breaks in I'll hear them and have time to load the gun. Hollow points because a dead intruder can't lie.

Chances are slim that I'll ever shoot anyone, but if someone breaks into my house while I'm at home, I'm sure they're there to hurt me because no one is home 12+ hours a day.

People keep guns unloaded? What good is that?

Sig 229 .40 in the bedside table with fully loaded mag and 1 in the chamber. I do not have kids and will not continue this practice when I have kids, but this is what I do for now. My wife knows where the gun is and that all she has to do is pick it up and pull the trigger... no fumbling around with anything if shes in trouble and I'm not around.

My carry piece, a Glock 23 fully loaded with 1 in the chamber, goes right next to the Sig every night, with a spare mag loaded up for each. Surefire is right next to them, too.

Loaded and unchambered. I can cock the thing when needed. No safety on the gun and I'd like to avoid a plax moment. LOL cock

Revolver loaded and ready, but we have a little one on the way and I have already mounted a quick-access handgun safe to the bed and will start keeping it in their after the kid is mobile.

Loaded and chambered. Taking full advantage of the +1 functionality.

Basically, I don't want to have to think about chambering a round if I need it. Might was well just throw the gun at the perp.

No kids. But, if I do have kids, they will learn NEVER to touch the guns unless I give them permission... like I did when growing up. I never played with Dad's or my gun, and didn't have to take a beating to learn that lesson.

Home defense-870 tactical with streamlight mounted, extended mag, plus 6 in the sidesaddle. 00 reduced recoil rounds, but not chambered. I'd rather the perp run out the door when he hears the slide, but if not I'm pretty set up.

Summer carry-Keltec 380, no safety, not chambered.

Winter carry-Glock 27, no safety, not chambered.

Everybody has their own comfort level, that's mine.

You know how you hear stories of how people sleep walk, eat, and other things in the middle of the night. What is there to stop people from picking up their best friend in the nightstand and having sleep practice?

TexasRebel

anybody that would do that most likely has a history of doing odd things while asleep...

it's just something that you have to know about yourself.

I hope that 5-year old that is getting the gun doesn't have an undiagnosed case of practicing shooting in sleep syndrome. She is so young they might not have caught it yet.

Unbelievable.

1) If you have loaded guns in your home they should be locked up imo. To the earlier poster who posted about their kid walking down the hall with a loaded gun? Serves you right. I don't have kids nor do I have kids in the house, but my handgun is in a quick access and the rest in a safe bolted to the foundation.

2) I think kids can learn gun safety but there's no reason for them to have access to loaded guns. Why take the risk? I'm not critical of those who made this decision, but I would never be able to live with myself if something happened.

3) 6 rounds in a 16 round magazine? BAHAHAHA BAHAHAHA seriously? Fill it up buddy, why have a semi-auto with a revolver capacity. Asking for trouble.

4) Safety is what's between your ears. There are safer guns out there like Double action or a grip safety, but if you aren't comfortable shouldn't have it in your house.
