For the first time since I don't remember when, KLOL has finished out of the top 15 radio stations in Houston. There is an old saying in radio..."win the morning and you win the day". Walton and Johnson are not holding up their end of the deal.

The ratings were never ever this bad during the various incarnations of Stevens and/or Grego Pruett and The Boner.

I only occasionally flip past KLOL, but I can tell you another thing that's hurting them: Outlaw Dave. I can't stand to listen to this guy for more than 10 seconds. I guess if you're a 16-year old, pimple-faced high school kid looking to score your first beer and joint, he's cool.

I still think they are the best thing on the radio.

i won't even listen to KLOL in the mornings anymore. the obvious fake voices create some sort of gag reflex deep in my core, I don't even care to listen long enough to find out what the subject matter may be.

met outlaw dave once at Fajita Flats. he was hitting on me, and he was creepy. that's the day I created my fake name that I use in bars when I don't want to give out my real name.

Why can't they just hit shuffle on that big 'ol jukebox of theirs, mix in a few commercials here and there, and send the DJs packing. Surely it would save them some money. All you need is a producer at the station to make sure everything is up and running.

I don't listen to music stations to hear people talk...if I wanted that, there's the talk radio on the AM side of the dial.

Agreed 100%. I don't get the idea of morning shows. If I wanted mindless chatter and NO music, I'd flip over to AM. But hell, even the music played on most of these stations is the same thing every morning. I could set my watch to KIKK's song list. CDs are a commuter's best friend.

I actually wrote down the time and song one day from 9-12 on a pop station out of baton rouge. Every day for two weeks the SAME songs were played 80% of the time at the same time. The other 20% were usually played at the bottom of the hour and i assume they just changed them once a day. It was so stupid. I heard "every morning" by sugar Ray; "mambo #5" and something else EVERY HOUR. Radio SUCKS now...big time. If i want to hear music, i'll listen to my cds. I find them amusing...often stupid...but for the 30+ minutes i'm in traffic they are the only thing i find remotely interesting. Maybe Houston is a different demographic, but it is odd to me that they are one of the highest (if not the highest) rated morning shows in Louisiana and Mississippi. Or maybe that just speaks for those states and the people that live/have lived there!

Part of the problem with cookie cutter radio is Clear Channel Communications, which is headed up by Chairman and CEO L. Lowry Mays '57.

During the first week of W&J they stated that they didn't want any of the "Old Listeners" to tune in anymore if they didn't like their show, "All, the new listeners would more than make up the difference."

I tuned-out and it sounds like most other listeners did also. Where are all those new listeners?

I gave W&J the benefit of the doubt (on cgh1999's recommendation). I actually like them less now than when I first heard them. They are too raunchy for me and don't entertain me at all. I've started listening to 94.5 or 93.7 in the mornings. Both shows are entertaining, but also play music, and I don't hear the same songs every day.

I'm still debating which was a worse decision by Clear Channel: Adding W&J to KLOL or adding Uncle Nasty to KLOL. They are just about equal on the suck-o-matic meter.

So this 'dumbing of America' movement has two hubs?

What works in one market often doesn't work in others. That's why Stern has never been on in Houston and has faired only moderately in Dallas. CC needs to bite the bullet on these two dopes and their lame-ass character voices and make a change. A 3-book downward trend is not good when the bottom line is revenue.

I second TA 99...Dean and Roge (93.7) mixed in with some classic rock is fine with me.

Everyone on this board swould get an XM radio. I love mine.

I really started to grow tired of Stevens & Pruit sometime when I was a grad student in the early-90's. I think those lame ass Uncle Waldo skits finally did it to me. Ever since then I disliked S&P, Dudley and Bob on KLBJ, Howard Stern, and just about every other lowest common denominator morning radio show. I think I became grumpy middle-aged man when I was about 23.

one thing i am glad about now that i am back up here is that i can listen to Howard Stern, Don and Mike, and Opie and Anthony.

those shows are good - others i 'tried' to listen to while travelling just suck.

Aggiechick - KLOL is 101.1 FM in Houston. Rock station with HORRIBLE djs. But I listen b/c it is the only place I can get Metallica.

Remember when 107.5 the buzz used to make fun of KLOL...they had a guy who sounded just like outlaw dave but called him inlaw dave...they'd fake going to him on location and he would be really drunk and throwing up.

And dont forget old Mr. Randy making fun of Sam Malone from KRBE...C'ya!

cgh - I usually listen to Walton and Johnson on the days I have to go into the office. I can't stand anything on the other stations, and they at least keep me entertained. Either that, or I just listen to CDs. To each his own, though.

They have been on in New Orleans (where I grew up) for 15 years. They are absolutely horrible. Half of their act is from the Tonight Show the night before or the Onion. Be grateful that you have only had to put up with them for 6 months.

I generally listen to Dudley & Bob on KLBJ in the mornings. They're generally amusing, for sips, but Charlie Hodge is an utter moron.

The alternative for me, tho, is Lisle & Hahn out of San Antonio, and that's not an option. San Antonio, without peer, has the absolute worst DJs/radio talking heads anywhere. All the stations. All the time. SA radio is awful.
