I know very little about jewelry and had no idea gold even had karats... I thought that was diamonds?

Anyway, what is the difference between 10 and 14 karats? My roommate said 10K does not scratch as easily as 14K... if that's the case then why is the 14K more expensive?

And is there any point in putting that tiny diamond for $400?

I am getting the antique style (the darker one) but it still has an option for 10K or 14K

metal alloys, 10k is harder and more of an alloy than 14k ie less gold

If you are serious...14K has more gold in it, thus more expensive and less "durable".

Oh and you cant get a diamond until you've made your first $million.

how much is the 10K these days? i lost mine a few weeks ago

karat (spelled with a k) is a measure of the purity of gold, with 24k being pure gold. Gold is a soft metal, so a higher karat will mean it scratches easier but is more expensive.

carat (spelled with a c) is a weight measure used for gemstones.


From what I have heard, the designs in the 14k will wear down very quickly if you wear it all the time.

EDIT: and diamonds in an aggie ring are super gay. Like gayer than Andy Dick and Richard Simmons in a telephone booth gay.

don't go any bigger than the 20pt diamond. if you get the 25pt or the 30pt they use a white gold shield and it doesn't look good on the ring.

I'm not a fan of the 10pt diamond either, it's so small it looks like an afterthought. The 20pt fits best in the ring and looks good in natural and antiqued.

i have never seen an OLD old ag with an antiqued ring

all the c/o 40s and 50s guys i have seen were all natural finish.

I got 10K 24 years ago and has worn somewhat.

My wife got 14K and it is almost worn smooth.


We both prefer the 10K now.

In the 90's all you could get in the gold was antiqued or rose finish. And to me, the rose finish always looked brassy. I know a lot of folks who went to a jeweler and got the finish stripped. Natural wasn't an option in the ring office.

people in the business world recognize the natural finish all the time as an aggie ring. the antiqued looks dirty and fhegtastic

Are you serious? Sorry, but imo, the non-antiqued rings look a little fruity.

I got a 14K, and all that stuff about the 10K being more resistant to dings and dents is not really true. Mine looks pretty good for being 3 years old, and I spin it and open bottles with it all the time.
