How long do you want to ignore this user?
His complection has taken a nose dive over the past year. AFter several different meds, the doc says there are two other options
1. Some type of blue light that shines on his face two times a week for five weeks, or
2. Acutyne (which sounds as though it could have significant side effects).

Anyone here had experience with any of these?

I've only had secondhand experience with Accutane. when I was in high school debate class, we were having practice debates. one guy got up to debate, he was taking Accutane at the time, and he got so worked up during the debate that he started crying and had to leave the room. that's the only negative story I know though. I know 2 people personally that it has helped.

I've heard good things about the light in the media, but no one I know has used it.

i know a lot of people who had really severe reactions to acutyne. it hardcore dries out your skin, so expect lots of peeling and having it look much worse before it looks any better

Kind of jumping to conclusions...there could be ALOT more factors. I took accutane for a year or so and had absolutely NO side effects. My acne wasnt even that bad at all in HS. Id def. recommend it.

What hippie said. There is a girl in one of my classes who is taking it, and other than being a chapstick addict, her skin has changed amazingly for the better after less than 2 semesters. It was pretty red for a couple of weeks but it is sooooo much better than where she started.

there are significant side effects especially for females. birth defects while on Accutane are not a "maybe" but "how pervasive" talk to your pharmacist for more information on either Accutane or BenzaClin

acutane is your sure-fire way to completely annihilate acne.

that was in high school that i used it, now that im in my 20s i just wash with a cleansing bar made with 5% sulfur which is a natural way to prevent acne and its completely effective for me.

My girl friend just got off accutaine (sp?). The main side effects she had were really dry skin and she got easily sun burned. Also, if you are a girl you have to do this thing called ipledge saying that you wont get pregnant. Accutaine causes birth defects if you get pregnant when you are on it. So for your son, it shouldn't be that big a deal. In the end, she said it was totally worth it. Be warned though, it isnt cheap. One month, before her insurance deductible was met, the monthly supply was something over $300 dollars. If you got any more questions just ask, shes sitting over my shoulder as I type this.

buddy was that for the brand or the generic?
for Accutane a quantity of 60 which is a typical months supply is around $700 before insurance the generic, Sotret is closer to $400 for the same quantity. these are the prices from our supplier

edit: now that i think back that $700 was with the insurance with out was $900 something.

What was the total out of pocket on it? I don't believe our insurance will cover it.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
no one effin believes me about the sulfur bar. it costs like 5 bucks at those stores that sell vitamins and natural cosmetics/shampoos and it works
secretajent
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Accutane worked well for me,
but
Dry skin, nose bleeds easier, and SUNBURN if you take that med and are fair skinned, use sunblock.

Acutaine works well and for a guy not much to worry about unless he's the melodramatic emo type already.

There are some side effects like dry skin and I had some nosebleeds but after a few months never had an acne problem again.

IPledge is a system that pharmacys, doctors, and patients use when a prescription for Accutane or Sotret is written. If a girl gets pregnant while taking this drug its not a question of if there will be birth defects rather how bad will the birth defects be. IPledge tries to assure that no girl gets pregnant while on this drug. The patient must take a pregnancy test and an online test before the drug can be dispensed. The pharmacy has to call a 1 800 number to get authorization from IPledge before filling the prescription.. all in all its a pain in the ass.

IPledge. I love it when you have to keep trying to run a prescription all day because a doctor hasn't clicked the button on their side to approve it.

I also find it interesting that it's pretty much harder to get Accutane than morphine.
SilverAg08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
whats fun is when the patient demands brand name and insurance won't cover it so after already running it through IPledge you have to reverse it and resubmit with Sotret.. waste of time...

I started getting acne when I was around 13 and really struggled it with it until I started using Benzaclyn and it has worked great for me ever since. It's not perfect and you will still go through a few stretches were your complexion gets bad but most of the time my face is pretty clear. My face would be like a million times worse if I didnt use it considering the past history of a few family members.

Differin also works but not as well... also going to see a dermatologist is the best thing to do because they know whats best for the individual and how to treat what.

edit: also no real side effects with benzaclyn... at least for me.

I took Accutane- worked great

get one of those sleeves of chapstick, and then get some good sunblock- only problems i had

rare cases can have other complications- i heard some horror stories from random people- depression being the main one (don't know if it's true though)
