I don't see how they can be committed to faith like that but still get it on in the bedroom and live a normal life. Either you are 100% committed (a pastor or preacher) or not.

The same can be said for any other profession. Should a teacher be celibate? A doctor? Why only clergy?

Frac, it's a job. Period.

There's nothing in the Bible to validate priests being celibate.

How would you like it if your boss decided that you need to be celibate in order to remove distractions for your job?

Marriage is a holy union.
I have no problem with married clergy.
How can a celibate individual connect with married congregants?

Nothing wrong in pastors leading a good, decent life with their family.....They can act as examples of what a family man should be like and influence the congregation in the right direction.

Celibate pastors end up messing around with boys!!!

You can beach all you want about the priest abuse etc, which is unforgivable, but only represents a small percentage of priests who are 100% committed to your faith.

Do you not mind that your preacher/pastor gets freaky in the bed? Uses sex toys and then gets up in front of you on Sundays talking about wholesome love for one another?

No.

God created sex.

See I don't agree with that. It should be a way of life not a job.

Again, I call troll and so what if he and his wife like to involve toys. So long as they're only playing with each other, it's nobody's damn bidness.

Makes 'em no different from many other happily married couples.

I agree with Frac that it is more than just a job...

but i totally disagree that a priest/pastor/etc should be viewed as anything other than a sinful man, like the rest of us.

they have needs that need to be expressed... in an appropriate manner with their wife

you could just as easily apply that to all Christians

should we all be celibate (I mean aside from those with below average intelligence who ought to be neutered/spayed prior to puberty)?

Frac, so long as he's doing it with his wife and only his wife and she enjoys it as well, no, I have absolutely no problem with it.

God made sex for married couples to enjoy, however kinky that should be.

And it should, but not all of us stand there and preach the good word in front of hundreds...

Exactly. My father is a minister and many of the problems he deals with come from people expecting him to be more than human. In my opinion, the more like the rest of us our preachers are, the more effective they are.

Slicer, so you have no problem if your preacher has kinky sex with his wife? Obviously he got this idea from somewhere....where would that be? Her? His college? Pron?

so in order to be a priest (or preacher or pastor) one must be perfect his entire life, from birth until death?

I know of a guy who was able to do that, but it was a really long long time ago

I'll never understand how a celibate priest is supposed to counsel couples on sex, children, etc...doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

Well, would you have a problem with your preacher/pastor having had premarital sex?
AliasMan02

didn't read the thread, but no.

Peter was married, for starters. Secondly, you can be a married Anglican or Lutheran Priest and recieve Roman Catholic orders, so it's clearly acceptable in some fashion.

The celibacy thing was created by the Roman Catholic church to prevent parishes being passed down from priests to their children. Property rights in Europe were pretty strong, and the church couldn't have that (for a number of good reasons).

Most Priests that don't marry have an honest call to celibacy, but there is no reason to require it.
Slicer97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
depends

did the premarital sex occur before or after he became a preacher?

So Frac's problem is not that the priest has sex, but that the priest has kinky sex and where kinky sex ideas come from?

The real question is, is Frac comfortable with his own self image and sex life?
Slicer97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
no

it has to do with the whole forgivness thing which happens to be a kinda signifcant part of our faith

Frac has a hot wife at home with 2 wonderful kids. Frac has no issues or stress in life.

Just an honest question.
I know a few pastors, and they are great people, but I often wondered how big of a sacrifice is it. Country club memberships....sabbaticals in Sonoma Valley.....etc.
