Yellow, Gold, Red, light blue are all good options.. If the blue suit has any kind of piping or pattern to it, you might look for a tie that draws that out.

If you choose a yellow or gold tie, an ecru/off white shirt is probably best. With light blue or red, you'd probably go plain white.

And I second the black shoes. Don't wear that with a navy suit.

Navy suits look best with cordovan/burgandy/brown shoes. Black shoes are for charcoal suits and little else.

Try a striped shirt, something with blue and brown in it.

Then go for a bright orange tie, maybe with some navy stripe or check pattern. Orange and blue are complementary colors, so it really pops, looks sharp and shows some sense of understanding the whole color thing.

I promise you, this looks awesome.

It's ok if you think that.

I have seen this on men that know how to wear suits, and it looks amazing.

Look boring if you want to.

Or look like your gaydar is in full operation. Your choice.

here's some boring options:

This next one would look good with an offwhite/ecru shirt. The color would blend nicely with the shirt, and the blue diamonds bring it together. Nice look with brown shoes:

With the last set, I would probably only work with the first two of these, left to right (the red & yellow). The black/purple ones would look terrible. You might be able to use the 3rd/4th one in the row, but only with just the right look of shirt and it would really depend on the suit. The first two are safe choices.

Really. Any color shirt except black IMO. With Tie I would go with something that ties everything together (shirt, suit, shoes). Personally, if it is a dary navy suit I would wear black shoes.

if you think you can't wear black shoes with a navy suit then your mother probably still dresses you.

From GQ

quote:
I work with rather conservative dressers. An older coworker and I disagree on whether my brown shoes are appropriate with a navy suit. I contend they are an obvious choice over the black-and-blue look. Please help.

A: There are many older men who will go to the grave believing that wearing brown shoes with a navy suit is morally wrong. Actually, it is wearing lighter brown shoes with a navy suit that is wrong. Your shoes should be at least as dark as your suit. If your brown shoes are of a darkness approaching black, you are okay. If they are tannish, the old man is right, and you should be banned from the executive washroom. There is nothing wrong with wearing black shoes with a navy suit, sir. Ask any admiral.

I bought the red one a few weeks ago for 15 bucks.

Agreed.

But if you feel more comfortable in dark brown shoes, wear those.

A good suit doesn't make up for lack of confidence.
